dbird Posted September 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2006 Hello My husband and I are booked on a three day cruise from Vancouver on Sept 30th. We have cruised several times ,but this is the shortest one to date. Do you think there will be a formal night on this sailing? I normally love to dress for these events, but we are headed off to Vegas after the trip and I am trying to decide if I want to bother with my gown/shoes. Any help would be appreciated. newmexicoNita Posted September 8, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2006 Normally there are no formal nights on cruises less than 4 days. NMNita

Krazy Kruizers Posted September 8, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 8, 2006 I assume that you are going on the Zuiderdam which begins on Sept 30 out of Vancouver for a 21 day repositioning cruise??? Sept 30 - board in Vancouver Oct 1 - Astoria, Oregon Oct 2 - Sea Day ---- FORMAL NIGHT!!! Keep in mind that not everyone will be doing just 3 days. So the dress code is set up for those doing the entire 21 day cruise.

Do you have an actual schedule of the Dress Code for the entire cruise, or are you assuming that the first Sea Day is a Formal Night (HAL's general practice)? Will be boarding in SF, and had assumed the next day (Sea Day) would be a Formal Night.
hammybee Posted September 8, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2006 Maybe you want to consider something that spans between formal and informal, like this:
dbird Posted September 9, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted September 9, 2006 We are actually leaving Vancouver on Sept 30 on the Zaandam, 3 days to San Francisco. Maybe I will take my standby knee length black skirt and a top with sparkle, that will do double duty in Vegas. I must say reading the posts hear I don't think I would have any problems with the people who cruise Holland America. Two of our other cruises have been with Cunard, while I love the line, if you want to stir up a hornets nest go to the Cunard board and mention not wearing formal wear on a formal night, then watch the sparks fly. newmexicoNita Posted September 9, 2006 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2006 HAL loyalists can be pretty verbal about formal night. I didn't realize the cruise you were taking will continue. I guess it isn't really a 3 day only cruise. As I said 3 day cruises do not have formal nights, but if this is a continuation cruise I guess it would. What you are thinking of taking sounds like it will fit fine. NMnita
