Reasonably Priced Hotel in San Juan

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Recommended Posts

Hi Tim,

My partner and I did the same thing a couple of years ago, and had a great time. We love Old San Juan, but have only stayed there once, at what was then a Wyndam hotel. It was very nice, and only a 5 to 10 minute walk from the center of OSJ. It has changed hands, and I would not recommend it. The only other good places I know of to stay in OSJ are The Gallery (a B&B), and El Convento. Both pretty pricey, depending upon the season.

There is a place I've heard of called Hotel Milano. It's reasonable, but the reviews are so-so. The worst problem seems to be the noise. Check out Tripadvisor.com and read up on it.

As an alternate solution, I would recommend a place in El Condado (half-way between the airport and OSJ) called Coral Princess Inn, which we stayed at a couple of nights before our cruise out of SJ. If you're looking

for a full fledge hotel with all the trimmings this would not be it, but it is quiet, clean, comfortable bed, reasonably priced (about $100-125 per night) and a couple of blocks from the beach. It is also a couple of blocks from the Marriott Hotel (which is great for a couple of drinks before dinner), a small outdoor gay bar by the ocean, and some pretty decent restaurants. There is a bus on Ashford St., about a block from the hotel

which takes you to OSJ in about 10 minutes. Can't give you too much info. on the bus, since we always rent a car.

We know the area pretty well, we frequent SJ often. I'll be glad to answer any other questions. :)

Thank you very much for the info. We will make it a point to check-out the hotel Milano and the other one you mentioned by the Marriott. We are mainly looking for a cheap place to conserve money, don't really care about a 4 or 5 star hotel. I think the Milano will do... You mentioned a small gay bar on the ocean? Is that the Marriott or near there? Thanks again!

Tim

P.S. We are going on the Crown Princess 30 Sept with a stop in San Juan.... So we will check-out the hotels then. Maybe we can stop by that gay bar too... Do you know the name of it?

Wow!!! The Marriott for $125. Have stayed there a few times, but have never seen such a low rate. That was lucky.

The gay bar is about 3 or 4 blocks from the Marriott. It's located at the Atlantic Beach hotel. It's a gay hotel, but I've heard nothing but bad things about the hotel itself. The bar is not bad at all. We usually go there for a drink when we're in the area. We love sitting there and watching people on the beach as the music is playing on. I believe that it's on Vendig St., right of Ashford. Google it and you'll find it. I hear there is a Sunday tea dance, but we've never been around at that time. They also used to serve breakfast. Not sure if they still do.

Just make sure to read the reviews on Trip Advisor by other folks regarding the Milano. The last few have been pretty bad. Good luck.

Lucky is right. We looked months ahead and for weeks shopped on the internet. Could find nothing for less than $250 and then for some reason the rates began to fall and we booked pronto.

Just shop and call often until you find something that fits your budget.

Mike:)

Hey, Good Morning Whiskey!

We are cruising out of San Juan Oct 1 and heading down a few days earlier too. We are staying in the Condado beach area at a little boutique hotel called "At Windchimes Inn". Its not a large hotel with lots of amenities but just looks nice from the website.

Besides, we won't be in the room too much as we will be out exploring!
