Jameson Posted September 9, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 9, 2006 My wife and I are taking our very first cruise this month. We will be on The Caribbean Princess. I know there is a $10 per person per day tip automatically added to our bill. I have no problem paying the fee for my wife and I, but we are also taking our 15 month old triplets with us. Since the babies will not really be using any services, would it be justified to remove the extra $30 a day from our bill? Do you think they would be OK with that at the pursers desk? wwinfl91 Posted September 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 9, 2006 If I was you I would notify the pursor's desk you want to take off the $10 a day for your baby but to leave on the tips for you and your wife. IMHO. Have a great First cruise.
rebeccalouise Posted September 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 9, 2006 Most cruise lines only charge 50% for children. Having said that- do you think you cabin steward is going to work less hard because of your triplets? Or do you think she might have to do a lot of work- like make up beds, possibly cribs, empty dirty diaper pails over and over and stumble around a crowded room picking up after 5 people...just a thought. Aren't the three children going to require high chairs in the dining rooms. I am sure they never spill anything on the floor or make extra work for the staff. I am being sarcastic but I tip more because of my child not less! I have sailed with 4 people in a cabin- I marvel at the efficiency of the room stewards. I can't tell you how nice people are when they see you with a baby (let alone 3!) They bend over backwards for families on cruises. Be prepared to reward them for a job well done. You children will indeed be utilizing the staff's services.
ssbeagle Posted September 9, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 9, 2006 You can do whatever you want to do with your tips. The purser can remove all of them if you want. However, I think rebeccalouise stated it very well. The cabin attendants work hard so you don't have to and the waiters will love serving you with the children. On most ships they love kids. I remember how they spoiled our 1-year-old granddaughter when we were on a cruise with her and our son and his wife.
LARGIN Posted September 9, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 9, 2006 I agree with rebecca.. The tips should be left in place.
rebeccalouise Posted September 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2006 To the original OP- hope you didn't take offense by my remarks. Just remember how your house and care looked before you had triplets! I know my house looks like a toy graveyard and don't get me started on my car- slimmy fingerprints, spilled sodas, wet tennis shoes. Just today I was vacuuming it out and found some kind of sticky candy crap on the floor. I love my kids but it is amazing the mess they can make! First of all, let me say you can do whatever you think is appropriate - there will be no questions asked at the Pursers (other than "Are you dissatisfied?" or something like that) Personally, we left the auto tip in place for our family on our last cruise earlier this year - you will surprised the extra effort made by the staff to make your childrens holiday better.
