SPIRIT Questions

Hi. I haven't been on the boards for a few months. We sailed the Dawn last Dec. and are now sailing the Spirit on 12/10/06. As I start our packing list, I have a couple questions. Do we need special converter(plug)for curling iron, lap top, etc...? Is it still $180.00 to park at the pier? We had to reserve connecting balconies,(2 adults, 3 children), can the divider on the balcony be opened, as on the Dawn? I understand they have no movie theater, do they show movies elsewhere on the ship? Thanks for all the help. Janice

Do we need special converter(plug)for curling iron, lap top, etc...?

No. You'll find a regular 120 volt receptacle in the bathroom and on the desk in your cabin. If you're bringing many electrical devices, it's a good idea to bring an power strip so you can plug them in all at once.

Is it still $180.00 to park at the pier?

Yes, for an entire month.

We had to reserve connecting balconies,(2 adults, 3 children), can the divider on the balcony be opened, as on the Dawn?

No, the dividers are solid and can't be opened.

I understand they have no movie theater, do they show movies elsewhere on the ship?

Yes, late at night in the Stardust Lounge. But there's movies all day and night on TV which you can watch from your cabin.

But from what I understand - if you want to use your US hairdryer you do need the adaptor and converter.

Do you mean a three prong to two prong adapter (so grounded appliances can be plugged into a non-grounded outlet) or a voltage converter (to drop foreign 220AC to 120 U.S. Ac voltage)?

I purchased a hairdryer with a conversion switch and then I took along an adaptor that I purchased from Walmart for $10 and it worked fine. If you do a search on this I know I posed it in full several other times. If you try to use a hairdryer in the 110 outlet, you may blow a fuse on the entire floor. I wasn't willing to take that chance and like I said, the adaptor worked fine. Have a Great Trip.

One more question if I may. Do they have ATM's aboard? Thanks again. Janice

They do. I have heard they can run out later in a voyage, but I don't have personal experience with this. You can also get cash against your on-board account from the casino with no service charge. It just shows up as another on board charge and goes into the total charged to your credit card at the end of the voyage.

Do you mean that there are no hairdryers in the Spirit cabins? Or are you just talking about people who want to bring their favorite hairdryers from home?

The Spirit's cabins have hair dryers in the bathrooms. Some consider them weak. Some prefer to dry their hair in the cabin.

But, the 110 Volt outlets on the Spirit are limited to 500 Watts. Since most hair dryers are rated 1500 Watts or more, you're likely to trip the circuit breaker if you use them on the 110 Volt outlets.

Therefore, if you wish to bring your own hair dryer, you're going to need a power converter to use the 220 Volt outlet, or buy a hair dryer that works on both voltages, then you will need plug adapter.

We just got back from our cruise on the Spirit today! There are plenty of kids movies on the TV Channels 4 & 5: Finding Nemo, Over the Hedge, Shrek 2, Akeelah and the Bee, High School Musical, Benchwarmers, and RV. Some movies are played in one of the conference rooms (we always watched from the comfort of our room).

Bring a power strip and plug it into the regular outlet by the desk (I called it my make-up table). I used my curling iron there and we used it to charge our camera batteries, Ipod, etc. You'll need a 220/240 volt adaptor for the plug under the TV.
