Are all the balconies in the va ab vc etc the same size and if not do you know which have the larger ones. thanks turia

I'm not certain about the side balconies, but I know the Vista Class cabins on the wake have balconies 2 to 3 times deeper. All but those on deck 8 are uncovered.

On that same line of questions. How "private" are the balconies? I know some ships are set up where the decks stair step so you can look down and see the balcony below you. Just wondering in case I wanted to sit out on the balcony.....

What do you mean wait for assignment day? When you book a cabin, you ask for the cabin number(s) you are interested in. Usually, you have to book about one year in advance to get an aft balcony.

I booked Zuidy's 7131 about 6 months out, and 5180-5181 about 4 months out, and once was upgraded from an SS to a wake Suite only 2 weeks before sail time. The OP may have been considering a GTY reservation.

We have just moved to 8th deck, Westerdam paid to upgrade becasue Mom is traveling with and we wanted to be near her handicap room. It has an uncovered balcony, tell me the positive and negative? I did not realize there was no cover. (have need in on decks 6 & 5) I guess in the rain is would be wet, etc... Can people look down onto our balcony? We are in 8031 + 8029. Also I just noticed we are below Lido, I wonder if this area might be noisy? Any comments?

8029 and 8031 (HCP on the bump) are both covered. The 8031 veranda can be seen from the side, but not from above. Directly above those cabins are the Thermal Suites in the Spa, so you shouldn't have any deck chair scraping or pool noises, except what drifts down from outside.

Your chances are slim to none of getting a aft balcony, but good luck.
I got a great upgrade! I was a VF guarantee and got a VA aft upgrade on the Zuiderdam (deck 7). It's one of the skinnier middle ones but since there's only me, I don't care! I'm really looking forward to the longer veranda. :D
