spocruiser Posted September 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2006 How is the snorkeling in Grenada? If it is decent, any suggestions about good places to go on our own or is there a good tour operator for this type of activity? Thanks.
Sandcrab Posted September 23, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2006 There are several dive & snorkeling shops on Grand Anse Beach which can take you to spots if that's the way you want to go. If you want to go out yourselves I would suggest snorkeling off the Aquarium restaurant where there is a live reef and you can enter from the beach. There is another spot at Dragon Bay on the tip of Moliniere Point where the snorkeling is great. :) Both sites entail taking a taxi to them from the cruise ship terminal. spocruiser Posted September 23, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted September 23, 2006 BJ; Thank you. I appreciate your infusion of knowledge into the Grenada threads. A couple more questions if you don't mind... How far would the sites you suggest be from where the cruise ships dock? Are there beach facilities (chairs, food, drink, bathrooms) nearby? Are there cabs readily available to return to the ship? Can you reccomend any private vendors on Grenada for snorkeling? Thank you.
North Carolina Cruiser Posted September 26, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2006 Is renting a car a good idea so I can see the entire island? I want to snorkel, shop, sightsee........ not just one or the other. Are the road clearly marked and how's the traffic?
denboy Posted October 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Is renting a car a good idea so I can see the entire island? I want to snorkel, shop, sightsee........ not just one or the other. Are the road clearly marked and how's the traffic? Although the island is only approx 20 miles by 12 you wont be able to see the entire island in a day even if you do rent a car. Some road signs are now being erected in readiness for the cricket world cup but overall there are not many signs although people will be happy to point you in the right direction. Traffic around St.George's can be heavy otherwise you shouldn't encounter too much traffic.
North Carolina Cruiser Posted October 13, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 13, 2006 So what's your suggestion for seeing the most? I don't care about chairs for rent, water toys, and the other stuff, I enjoy snorkeling and sightseeing, different places, the waterfalls sound good the different churches, forts and going at my own pace
Sandcrab Posted October 29, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 29, 2006 The Aquarium is the best one for your purposes except on a Monday when it is closed. I say this because you will have chairs and tables to use and a great restaurant to get good food too. Taxi is about 20 minutes from the cruise terminal. Make arrangement for your driver to pick you up in plenty of time. It will be busy in St. George's which you have to go through especially when there are cruise ships in port. The snorkeling at Dragon Bay is better approached by boat but the reef and sea creatures there are very nice. Dragon Bay is in the other direction north of the terminal, but if you go by boat, you will have your own taxi with you. :)

Jim I understand from all the forum-board's that the driver's outside the cruise area get pretty aggressive as you exit the cruise dock wanting to give tours ect. , are we going to have any trouble finding a regular taxi to take us to the Aquarium beach and then pick us up later ??? And secondly I see by their web-site that the Aquarium restuarant doesn't open til 10:00am. But can we arrive eariler, and will there be beach access even though they're not open yet ? .. Btw..What time would you recomend for getting there?? Thanks for the great info and help Srpilo
denboy Posted November 7, 2006 #9 Share Posted November 7, 2006 There is a booth within the Esplanade shopping centre which you have to go through after disembarking where you can find taxi drivers. For the return journey arrange a time with the driver to pick you up again. There is access to the beach to the side of the Aquarium even when the restaurant is not open.
