bleuseas Posted September 14, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2006 A few of our fellow Cruise Critics have found out they have late-arriving (4pm) flights in Honolulu. They are worried about getting shut-out on dinner reservations by the time they get to the ship. I am getting in a day early and was wondering if the maitre'd will let me make their reservations for them onboard when I make mine? What information will I need? Thanks. MidtheNight Posted September 14, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2006 You can make a reservation for the total number of people in your group. Be aware though that you have to present your sign/sail/room key for them to swipe through their terminal and if you miss your reservation you will be charged the penalty fee (specialty restaurants only) for the total number of people you booked the reservation for. bleuseas Posted September 15, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted September 15, 2006 We will not be dining together in the same group, we have just met on our roll call. I just thought if I had some names and cabin #'s or something I could help some people out. I guess if they need to swipe a card it won't work. MidtheNight Posted September 15, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2006 The "swiping of the card" for the specialty restaurants is your "agreement" to make the reservation and the understanding of any penalty if you skip your reservation....it's not much ($5/person?) but when you are on a cruise those few extra bucks could add up if you made multiple reservations for them. So unless you know them really well, then I would caution you against putting your card down for them. Sorry, I'm in IT and I'm always working against the black hats to keep our system secure...my trust factor is a measly 9 on a scale of 1-100 hence my warning....I know in my heart that 90% of all the people in the world are actual good, honest, hard working individuals but it's that other 10% you have to worry about. I'm sure that as soon as they board if they make their reservations for dinner for the entire week (a lot of people only make it for 1, 2, or 3 nights and then fall in love with a specialty restaurant and then can't get another reservation for the rest of the week) all at once they should be able to get most of the times they want. You'd be surprised how many people don't make reservations until the next day instead of upon arrival.
