Tipping guideline for solo-traveller

Hi!

(I also posted this on the solo traveller board).

I will likely sail on NCL Spirit in two weeks (my boss approved time off, I just need approval from my technicians) but I have a question regarding tipping.

NCL adds 10$/day/person automatic tip and this includes waiters and maid service. Since I travel solo, do I have to pay double for the tips? I hope not. I was thinking about giving the 10$/day autotip + 20$ to the maid + telling her she needs not to do the turn down service, simply leave enough towels in the morning (and I can turn down my bed myself). Do you think it's fair or should I give more tip to the maid?

You only have to pay for your tips. You aren't charged for two. And you don't have to tip the steward any more at all if you don't want to and they'll still service your room twice a day. I usually leave the auto tip and if I feel its warranted, I give more at the end of the week. I've traveled as a solo cruiser several times and had good service every time.

Same experience here. I've never either paid, or felt that I'd been expected to pay, double.

Same here - I have however lft an extra $20 for the room stewards only because I wanted to and felt they were shorted a bit with just a single tip. The fact is I bet they still get thier full share of the pool even if they have a single cabin.
