Lago Mar in FLL??

Old As Dirt Mom

Recommended Posts

We have reservations at Lago Mar resort in FLL prior to our cruise departure in December. There have been several negative reviews of the Lago Mar over at a well-known travel website lately. The reviews comment on the general decrepitude and need for renovation at the resort. They also disparage the 18% service charge that is levied on everything, even items purchased at the onsite store. Can anyone who has stayed at this hotel recently comment? Thanks very much.

I have not been there recently. We were there in 2002 and loved it! Yes, the hotel had some age and some wear, but nothing I couldn't live with. The location and the grounds were wonderful and everything was very clean. It had a beautiful beach, beautiful pool, and great food in the restaurant. a very resort feel to the place. Our room had two bathrooms which was a real treat - we didn't have to take turns getting ready! I'd go back in a minute!

I stayed there for business in July-- valet & check-in folks could not have been more pleasant - I flew in that morning, arrived at 10am- not only did they allow me to check in early, but they upgraded me to a suite overlooking the pool & ocean! Pool, beach & rooms immaculate. I thought it was a nice change of pace from the typical chain hotels-- & it was very close to the inlet where the ships come & go. The restaurants were a little pricey- & the service charge- oh well- it wouldn't deter me from staying there again. If I were to ever do a cruise from FLL, I'd stay there in a heart beat!

Middle-Aged Mom,

I just opened my latest Coastal Living Magazine and Lago Mar is listed as one the "15 Inns We Love"! See October Issue, Page 142

So, don't change that reservation!!:D

Super! Thanks Nauti-Lady! I'm off to the store to snag a copy:) I promise to post a Lago Mar review here after our cruise for those who might be interested.

We stayed at the LagoMar last summer, pre (2nt)and post (3nt)cruise! We loved it. We had a one bedroom, and were pleasentaly suprised with the room. It had 1) one large bedroom with 2 QB, a TV, and a bathroom. Large closet

2) sitting area with a desk and an assortment of books

3)small kitchenette with microwave, bowls, glasses, refridgerator

4)living room with sofa bed, another large closet, tables,

5) large balcony overlooking pool area!

My kids and husband loved it! The pool was large and clean, plus there was a shaped pool with warmer water. Tennis courts, life-size chess pieces, mini-golf, ping pong..

The beach area was clean and beautiful. Only downfall, was the rental of chairs and umbrellas on the beach. For what I paid nightly, I thought that could have been included!

We didn't eat in the resort, due to the pricy prices..but drove to local eateries! The kids did have ice cream one day....good, but $$$$!

You can NOT go wrong IMHO, at the Lago Mar!

We ate the Bimini Boatyard...$$$ but good.

Then with the kids we ate the old stand-bys....Marconi Grill ( by the mall in Ft.Lauderdale), and the Olive Garden. WE just did McDonalds,Burger King, Denny's for breakfast. Lunch, we did local delis after breakfast and took them back to the hotel, so we didn't have to go out again before dinner! Bags of chips, 12 pk coke and sandwichs for lunches!

Our kids are little picky, so we didn't try alot of the local places, but in March just me and hubby are going on a 8nt cruise, and staying in Ft.Lauderdale pre cruise one night, so we will find a local seafood place and enjoy!
