I'm hard pressed to single out a particular restaurant in the North End because there are so many. Three of my favorites are: Dolce Vita; Strega; and Limoncello. Caffe Vesuvio is also popular. Joe Tecce's is popular with celebrities and politicians. As far as cannolis and other pastry, Mike's Pastry Shop is a local landmark and has been visited by many celebrities and dignitaries. The North End is a pretty compact area so you are pretty much guaranteed a great Italian meal in any of the restaurants you find there.:)

For great pizza look for the original Pizzeria Regina on Thacher Street in the North End. They also have a location in Quincy Market and franchises in many locations but the original shop is still the best.:)

Definitely hit Mike's on Hanover Street!!!! The best bakery, by far!

There are also many great Italian restaurants on Hanover Street. My son lives in Boston and this is one of his favorite places to eat. (and my son is a VERY discerning diner....not picky, but KNOWS good food)

Do not miss mike's for pastry. We took a friend there just before he flew home to Milwaukee. He grabbed a box of goodies with about 4 items in it. He called me the next day to say he should have gotten a dozen goodies!

We've never faced a more difficult choice as to where to eat as we did in the north end. Restaurants and bakeries are EVERYWHERE, and they all looked great! We'll agree with negc on Dolce Vita at 221 Hanover. Franco was a wonderfully gracious host.

Damn! Now you've got me thinking food!!!
