Warning: Sail & Sign Plastic Holders with Lanyards

Just wanted everyone to know that while on a boat heading to Las Caletas P.V. on the Rhytms of the Night tour, there was a guy wearing one of these Lanyards with the Plastic holder, he had his California State ID card and his Sail & Sign Card. Some how the cards just slipped out of the holder and off they went into the Ocean. Luckly on the way back he had his Excursion wristband and also an older expired California ID card to get back on the ship.

I have never been a fan of these holders with the Lanyards because if you jump into a Tender and the Lanyard catches something, you can seriously get hurt, or have a nice mark around your neck.

I keep my Cards in my front pocket. Never lost one yet.

thanks, I wanted to jump on this and share an experience. We were snorkling at cozumel and a man had a "waterproof" neck case that had opened up. he lost EVERYTHING credit cards, ship ID... yep you name it... everyone was scouring trying to help. the waterproof clamp closed cases sold on the ship are NOT secure.

thanks for the reminder, I always felt the lanyards were safe... we keep ours in our pockets.... not much safer:o

Warning this lanyard may choke, fall off, be swallowed, toxic, change color. Do not drag anyone along by this lanyard except if consenting adults. Do not use to swing from the chandelier. It is not a bungee cord. Do not hang from certain body parts.

Use at your own risk

I use my laynard all the time. However I have a hole punched in end of card and hang on key ring on the laynard. When we go on excurssions esp. when we have to tender I just stick the laynad down my tshirt. No big deal. I feel more comfortable with around my neck and down my t-shirt. However I put the id card in pocket. Just do not like to keep both items together

So we will need a photo id and our S/S card to get on off ship in Ports?

thx!

I never thought about losing cards out of a lanyard, thanks

for the warning, now I must figure out what to do for the kids to have theirs (11/13)?? Fanny packs maybe??

When we travel I kinda insist that you take a fanny pack. When you put it on be sure to run it through a belt or belt loop that way if the buckle fails or someone attempts to cut it off you , there is a monent when you can grab it back from the brink.

We were on a Cruise and I insisted my father-in law take a fanny pack for s&s ID and such...he resisted, he said I'll just carry it in my pants, I said what if you loose your pants. He said I have never lost my pants. Any way he gave in and took a fanny pack. In St Maarten after a wonderful scuba dive we were headed back to ship I hear this,

uh-oh has any one seen my pants? I think I left them hanging in the dressing room at the Scuba Shack....I said where is you s&s & ID...he goes...O not to worry there are right here safe and sound in my fanny pack.

I did not say a word. I'm not like that, but boy you know what I was thinking!! :)

have fun play safe

Yes, you will need a photo id and your S&S to get on and off the ship in port. Most ports require a photo id to let you through to get back to your ship. Lots of folks have been left standing while friends went and got their photo id to get through port security. Seen it happen more than once.

I bought our lanyards at a sporting goods store. It has very thick plastic and has a waterproof seal, kind of a like a zip-lock bag....seals extremely well. I thought the lanyard was very convenient because I hate to carry a purse and we had to have our sign and sail cards and ID with us at every moment...didn't want to put it in my shallow pockets on my shorts, lol.

The only time I didn't have it around my neck was when I was sleeping or for formal night. My husband kept my sign and sail in his wallet then.

We'll be using the lanyards next time too. :)

My S&S card gets a hole punched in it and it goes around my neck, photo ID goes into my fanny pack/camera case. When ever I'm heading off the ship, they both go with me, but not in the same place..

Once I check out of the ship for my excursion, my S&S card goes down the front of my T-shirt. That's as secure as I can make it..

I recommend to all my friends, that they find a routine (for handling their cards) that works for them before they get on their trip and stay with it the entire time (unless it absolutely doesn't work)..

We were in ports two weeks ago and never had to show a photo ID to get on or off the ship. We carried them with us anyway, just in case, but no one ever asked to see them. All we did was have the guy ding our s&s card in and out. No ID was ever asked for!

Its not for getting on and off the ship, but getting back into the Port or Ship Yard where the ship is parked or the Cruise Terminal as in Mexico. Those guys with the M-16 Rifles hanging over their shoulders would like to see them. Most ports are industrial ports that contain those shipping containers all over the place, so their security requires some form of ID.

On our cruise when we were returning to the ship someone ahead of us had the wrong photo come up on their S&S card. He had his ID with him so they asked him to step inside and they would fix the mix up. That gave new meaning to why you should also carry a photo ID along with your S&S card.:D

Definitely in some ports - eg. Nassau - you had to show your S&S card AND another photo ID to get to the cruise ship area! So it pays to bring something else along.

I use a waterproof beach safe when heading off the ship in ports - but I am generally going to be in the water at some point anyways. In it I have my S&S card, 2nd ID, credit card and some cash. You do need to get a good quality case or to be extra sure use a large elastic band to insure it does not open! (my husband's also fell apart once and we made a 'donation' to the water at Sapphire Beach - luckily got the credit card back, lost the cash and S&S card in another pocket)!).

I also carry a beach bag w/stuff, but nothing that is irreplaceable - I know everything 'important' is hanging around my neck - even when I"m in the water so I can relax and enjoy!

Yup--had the same thing happen this trip even tho' I kept checking it. Now you see it--then it was gone. Tried top retrace my steps--kept checking w/the Pursers Office--everyone elses was turned in 'cept mine. Had last summers' Inaugural Liberty and old Platinum Destiny on it from 6 mo's after that. Usually, I kept a rubberband around it, so that nothing will fall out....I kept checking, then when I checked again--nothing there!!! I was NOT a happy camper--just a sentimental sap....

I found a neat water fanny pack- yes one can even look geeky in the water ;)

I found it at Dick's sporting goods, in area of camping and kayaking.

It looks like a bag and place items in it, then roll lip of bag down and it has its own set of buckles so it forms a circle keeping all things water tight. It is attached like a fanny pack to body. It has been reliable enough to carry id's actual paper ,money and my digital (cheaper one) camera. Never a drop of water or lost item.
