Just a Little Disappointed for Now

This will be our first cruise on HAL - Zuiderdam, 10th cruise overall on different cruise lines. I am a little nervous on what to expect from HAL due to two disappointing steps taken by them.

 

My wife and I are on the 11/04/06 sailing and HAL flipped their itinerary

to have Half Moon Cay as the first stop rather than the last. That's great except for the fact that we rented a Cabana right after they were released and HAL rented the Cabana again to someone else on the new date. Once they realized their mistake they called us to say what happened and they had changed our Cabana location. My question is why didn't they call the 2nd group and have them changed? Seems strange to me.

 

Second Item. Three weeks ago we upgraded from an SY to an SA suite. Well when we picked up our documents yesterday they were for our original room. A telephone call to HAL and they said you can switch your documents at the pier for your suite change. That is simply not acceptable. After spending upwards of $2000 on upgrading our room the least HAL could do is get it right. A couple of telephone calls and HAL will FEDEX Monday morning the correct documents. Of course they are going to charge the travel agent to do this?? Don't get me wrong if we had booked the cruise really late or HAL upgraded us, then I would completely understand picking up documents at the pier. I think HAL has sent the documents too early this time!

 

Toni and I can not wait to try out HAL.... A new cruise line, different ports of call and cruising in the carribean. We are looking forward to our fall cruise.

Hello,

I hope these are the only glitches and that you will have a wonderful cruise on the Zuiderdam. That said, have you posed these exact same questions to your Travel Agent and asked the TA to work with HAL to set things right? If you were first to book the cabana, then you should have been offered the choice and the second group booking would have received the cabana you did not choose.

 

It is difficult to know when your docs were generated, relative to when you requested and paid for the upgrade. If the only difference is that the cabin number on the ticket is incorrect, I'm not sure I understand your concern. The manifest and the other information at the pier should be correct. The immigration form you print off on your computer should also show the correct cabin #.

I agree with the2ofus. If your cabin is correctly assigned, but the number on your piece of paper is incorrect, then there is no problem there.

As to the cabana, then I also agree. First come (should be) first served. I would expect my TA to go to bat for me that I get first pickin's. Sometimes "sorry" just doesn't cut it; you also have to fix the problem.

After all is said and done, though, I hope the cruise is all you hope for.

I, also, hope that everything from here on out goes perfectly and that you and your wife have a wonderful cruise. I agree with the others that as long as the records are clear about your actual cabin number, all is well but I also understand your disappointment at the error. You paid a lot of money for everything to be just so and I don't blame you. Ahhhh...that we lived in a perfect world.

 

I don't blame you for wanting the correction and I probably would, as well.

 

Enjoy HMC. It's a gorgeous slice of Paradise. Hope you have a great cruise.
