DAIS28ABB Posted September 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2006 We will be in Alaska on the Carnival Spirit the week of May 9-16, 2007. My husband would very much like to go Halibut fishing. Has anyone gone, or caught halibut. We will be visiting Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. What would be the best port for that type of fishing, considering we will only be in each port for one day. Thanks for any info.
Stacym Posted September 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2006 Hi, None of the ports you list can give you good fishing for Halibut that time of the year? From what research my HB has done Icy Straight is the best place to fish for Halibut? Call Chilkoot Charters in Skagway they have fished that area in the past? NorthernVAPirate Posted September 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2006 I went halibut fishing in Icey Strait late last month and had a great time. We caught at least a dozen 15 - 20 pounders and had a great up-close encounter with a pair of whales. We booked through our ship, RCI and there were only 6 of us on the boat (8 including the capt and mate). Now we have a freezer full of halibut filets. We're having a halibut party this weekend!! Budget Queen Posted September 26, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2006 If indeed a big priority, add time interior Alaska and get to Homer and Seward. Excellent halibut chances, BUT research seasons.
