Patsy58 Posted September 27, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 27, 2006 Can anyone help me? We have booked a trip on the NCL Pride of Hawaii for May 2007. I know the ship is new and needs to get the kinks out but I have not seen anything really good said about it yet. We have until February 1st to cancel the trip and get our money back but I really want to go because of the great price we are getting. Any thoughts on this? Will the problems of a new ship be worked out by May? Would appreciate feedback from seasoned cruisers since we have only been on two other cruises in our lives. Thanks for the help. OptimusPrime Posted September 27, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2006 The PoH was the first cruise that my family took and on the whole we made sure we enjoyed it. Food was so so, but we were prepared for that. What we really went for, was the itinerary and that worked out really well for us. It was about the best way for us to see 4 of the major islands without the hassle of having to pack and unpack every other day.
hncg57c Posted September 27, 2006 #3 Share Posted September 27, 2006 As the previous poster said, it is the best way to see the major Hawaiian islands. It is a beautiful ship, and my family and I had a great time despite a few service issues. As for us, we didn't really have any problems except for minor problems with dining. For lobster night, we couldn't make reservations for the Grand Pacific or Alizar, so we ended up waiting for over an hour before we were seated. Another night, we had to wait at least 30 minutes before being seated at Grand Pacific. The server we had was very friendly and tried to get our food to us ASAP, so we requested him anytime we ate at Grand Pacific. The food is mediocre, definitely not as great as other cruiselines I have been on. Besides that, we haven't had any other problems. I don't think the problems will be fixed by May, but hopefully some of the service issues will be improved.
rockyhou Posted September 27, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 27, 2006 I just got back from the POH about a week ago. I cannot stress enough how much I LOVED IT. This is my 16th cruise and first time on NCL and after reading reviews had very low expectations. But much to my suprise I found things to be great. Ok it was not as good as on other ships i.e. food was OK, our room attendant was the worst I have ever had and the shows were corny and lame. But nothing was so bad that it ever happered my trip. If you can look past some of the little things it really is a great value. So much so I just book it again for the May 7th 2007 departure with my entire family. Our room att was the major drawback. We never saw them I still do not know if it was even a male or female. They skipped cleaning our room twice, when they did they took the dirty towels and left us 1 for the two of us. It was so bad I complained several times. By the 3rd day they seemed to straighten up and rest of the week was fine. The only thing I really missed was the casino. We enjoy making donations after dinner every night. Because of the lack of casino we found the night life to be a bit boring. Not alot going on in the disco public areas. So we had a nice quite relaxing week. As I said it was by no means a perfect trip..but it was fantastic anyway. I sure wish I were there right now. lindajeff Posted September 27, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 27, 2006 See my post and that of SheSheND. I wasn't impressed with the food - SheSheND was - different strokes.... In any event, the ship and the itinerary outway any food "issues" that I had. (Basically, freestyle cruising didn't suit my personality.) Go for it. You won't regret it. tomluvsaida Posted October 6, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Apparently you haven't read much on this board. There are lots of postive reviews! Actually the majority are positve in the past four months on the Pride Ships. If you are only talking about the official "reviews" that are very few and seem to take 2-3 months to post I can see why you would think the way you do. Read the ones within these posts and you will find lots of them and they are a lot more recent than the handful of the ones in the review section. Breezey Posted October 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We had a great time but it was because we were in Hawaii not because we had a great cruise experience. We said if only the ship can pick it up a few notches it would terrific. Needs much better food, service and entertainment. All the things we look for on a cruiseship. If your goal is to see a wonderful sampling of Hawaii, go on the POH knowing its shortcomings. If your goal is to have a wonderful cruise experience, who knows if the POH will ever get there. If your goal is to experience Hawaii and you have more than one week, do it by land. IMHO. I posted my review on the review boards (not up yet, we went last month). Not everyone chooses to put them on the NCL boards. I personally avoided doing it because I wasnt looking for critiques of my review.
