janisimo3779 Posted September 29, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 29, 2006 We'll be taking our first cruise next summer, and will have our young children with us. How does that affect the luggage allotment? Can each of us have a suitcase? Or do I need to pack their stuff with mine? Thanks!
TNC010100 Posted September 29, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 29, 2006 Well I don't specifically know the answer, but since I am taking my 11mo on FOS in two weeks, and we had to pay for her just like she was a 3rd person, I am packing her, her own suitcase. janisimo3779 Posted September 29, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted September 29, 2006 Didn't think about it that way, but that makes sense.
KeyOfSea Posted September 29, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 29, 2006 The limit for the ship is 200 lbs per passenger (I assume, regardless of age). The airlines have different restrictions.

Wow - that is a lot of clothes - most airlines are now at 50 lbs. per bag:o Found that out the hard way - had to open up one bag and start shoving into another right in front of everyone!! Merion_Mom Posted September 30, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2006 Cruiselines really don't care. It would be close to impossible to exceed that 200# per person. If you are flying, those are the restrictions that you need to worry about. If you are driving, bring it on! :)
janisimo3779 Posted September 30, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted September 30, 2006 We are driving, as we're only about 20 minutes from Philly. Thanks for the answers, everyone!

BearySweet2Cruise Posted September 30, 2006 #9 Share Posted September 30, 2006 We always bring one suitcase and one carryon per peson, and one additional suitcase for the beer and alcohol/soda/water.. whatever we choose to bring. You will have a real hard time to exceed 200pounds in luggage per person. Just keep in mind that the cabins are tiny and you have to store those suitcases in the cabin someplace until the end of the cruise. We nest our luggabe and use the closet and under the bed to store the suitcase. I have read that the cabin steward has a location where you can send your empty suitcases for storage until the last day if that helps. Have a great trip.. definately pack a suitcase for the baby. You will need alot of extra things for baby like diapers and formula (if it applies) you cannot get those items on the ship. Happy cruising
masonpips Posted September 30, 2006 #10 Share Posted September 30, 2006 We received 3 luggage tags for each of us (two adults + two kids, ages 7 & 8). So theoretically I could pack 3 suitcases for all of us and carry one (maybe 2?) on. That's a lot of bags!
janisimo3779 Posted October 1, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Janice, what Royal Caribbean ship is sailing out of Philadelphia next summer?!?!?!?!?!? Empress of the Seas. I'm new to cruising, my uncle is arranging everything. They sailed Empress this summer and convinced us to go with them next summer.

The baby will be over 2 then--no formula, and ?maybe? no diapers! But I will definitely want her own suitcase, as she has a severe milk allergy, and I'm planning on taking safe snacks for her. Luckily, one of the kids should be staying with my mom, so we will have some extra room.
