MSUcruisers Posted September 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted September 30, 2006 We will be on the Norwegian Dawn in a week. Next June, we are considering a Bermuda cruise. What are the advantages if I book the summer cruise while onboard the Dawn?
Rumncoke Posted September 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted September 30, 2006 They'll most likely offer you an onboard credit depending on the level of cabin you book. You can transfer the booking to your TA when you get home, if you have a regular one you like to deal with. We, however, have always gotten a much better price from our TA directly, even taking the OBC into account. YMMV. Check the pricing before you board from your TA. If NCL is comparable, go for it. You may lose your OBC if you make changes of any kind once your off the ship.

What are the advantages if I book the summer cruise while onboard the Dawn? Speaking from experience on 9/14/06. We joined the New Freestyle Rewards Program and gave them $250.00 and we got an $100 credit on our current cruise and could use the $250 as a deposit on any cruise for 18 months, either thru a TA or NCL. We booked a cruise for 10/28/07 on the ship thru the Cruise Consultant, Jenni. She reserved our cabin and she said to call when we got home to apply the $250.00 credit on it & to get the discounted fare and to tell them to look in the "notes" field for the deposit. I had looked up the fare I could get from NCL.com and she didn't have that discount on her computer. We never received a confirmation while on the ship. Called the afternoon we arrived home. The rep found my reservation but no mention of $250 deposit. I had to deposit $800 to hold the reservation. The Latitudes Rep had no idea of the new program on the Dawn. I called the number on the Freestyle Rewards Letter and spoke to a very nice rep. I told her about nobody knowing about this new program and she said she would notify the supervisors. The Freestyle Rewards number was in Arizona. She told me that my $250.00 deposit was not in the system yet, but she would apply it when it came onto the system. I got an e-mail with the deposit added last week. Overall, the only thing you get is $100 onboard credit, you can pick your cabin & get $50 off a two night hotel stay on either end of a cruise. I have booked all of our cruises directly thru NCL and know my way around their system. I booked 3 cruises onboard & have had to fix problems when I got home on all three. Maybe, they have fixed the problems by now. Have a great cruise Monty
billie5 Posted September 30, 2006 #4 Share Posted September 30, 2006 I obviously do not understand Rumncoke's post, because it seems to contradict itself. In the first paragraph, it says you can transfer the booking to your TA afterwards, which is true (and you get to keep your credits). However, in the second paragraph he (she?) says he gets a better rate directly from his TA. That does not make sense to me. Get the best rate you can from your TA and then give him your NCL booking number so control of the booking can be taken over by the TA, and you still have the TA's best rate ????? The only downside I can see (assuming you are going to take another NCL cruise) is that you might not qualify for a "new booking" deal. Does anyone know if TA's can generally get around the "new booking" stipulation if their best rate involves that sort of restriction? Bill
CRUISEinTIME Posted September 30, 2006 #5 Share Posted September 30, 2006 We will be on the Norwegian Dawn in a week. Next June, we are considering a Bermuda cruise. What are the advantages if I book the summer cruise while onboard the Dawn? August 2005 we were on the Dawn and booked our October 2006 Cruise. They gave us a $200.00 onboard credit for the new cruise. Several weeks later we moved the booking to our TA and the priced dropped about $1000.00. Hope this helps ! 7SeasLover Posted September 30, 2006 #6 Share Posted September 30, 2006 I was sailing on the Star Pacific Coastal in 05. I knew I wanted a Med cruise and had my TA quote it for me. (on NCL, of course.) I went to the cruise consultant on board who quoted a higher rate. I whipped out my TA's rate and he said, "Let me see what I can do." Gosh, gee... surprisingly he beat her price AND gave us a nice on board credit. Then my husband popped up and asked for a mini suite. There went my savings, but my on board credit went up to $200. My TA was credited with the cruise. Not all TA's offer the same prices though. Very confusing. Definitely do your homework before you get on the ship, then negotiate! Negotiate! Negotiate! I always book the air too, then change it after I get home and shop it. Oh... NEVER get off the ship w/o your confiirmation of the future cruise you booked! On our last cruise we asked for prices for the Pearl's Transatlantic having already priced it at home (UK). Perhaps because there was such a large difference (US prices higher than UK's) the Cruise Consultant just went "big difference" - no inclination to negotiate with us at all so it may depend on the price difference and the individual cruise consultant.
