gr1634 Posted October 1, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 1, 2006 After Steve Erwins untimely situation DW insisted I was not going to do the sting ray tour in Grand Cayman next week. I fully understand why she felt that way - don't have to agree but understand. Any way after some more discussion we decided last night that I will do the trip and she will go along but not get off the boat. While that may sound a bit odd - she is not a water person - and would not have gone in anyway. I am truly looking forward to the excursion. Watching the Conquest this morning via web cam and thinking next week we will be getting on her for our third Conquest cruise and 7th Carnival cruise. Next 7 days can't go by fast enough!! :)

gazingm42 Posted October 1, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 1, 2006 But I think to understand stingray city. Is these stingrays are so tame in compairison. They have been feed by people for years I think you have a better chance to be bit by your next door neighboors dog. We LOVED stingray city and would do it again. 98Charlie Posted October 1, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Just to help her with her fears, Click Here for a link that explains how rare "death by stingray" is. According to the article Irwin was the 3rd in Australia since 1938. And from Funny2.com Odds of being killed by lightning: 2,320,000 to 1 AND Chance of dying from contact with a venomous animal or plant: 1 in 3,441,325 Charlie
Loves_Dogs Posted October 1, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 1, 2006 Stingray City Sandbar in Grand Cayman has always been one of our most favorite excursions ever. My son (who was 13 years old at the time) and I did this even though we both were a bit aprehensive. We ended up holding a big stingray together so they could get a picture. That was 3 years ago. I would NOT miss Stingray City if I were you (I would absolutely do it again).
cruisin' again Posted October 1, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 1, 2006 After Steve Erwins untimely situation DW insisted I was not going to do the sting ray tour in Grand Cayman next week. I fully understand why she felt that way - don't have to agree but understand. Any way after some more discussion we decided last night that I will do the trip and she will go along but not get off the boat. :) We did the Stingray City tour in April of this year and LOVED it! How often do you get to have a stingray ON YOUR HEAD hearing and feeling him/her (hmmm...never thought about that....how do you tell?? ) slurping your hair!! LOL We also held one and took pics of that too... They do tell you to be careful and "shuffle" your feet along the sand bottom so you don't accidently step on one. And they also suggested you not wear water shoes, since you might not be able to feel if you stepped on one. There were a few people on our tour that didn't get off the boat...she probably won't be alone...
