momofmab Posted October 3, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Hi all- I'm new to Carnival, and am going to be sailing on the 7/19/07 Victory to Canada with 10 of my friends for our 40th b-days (how fun is that?!). We are booked 4 to a room, balcony cabins, category 8C. Does anyone know what the sleeping accomodations are in that type of room? On the Carnival website, I'm seeing what looks like 2 twins that can be pushed together and a couch. Does the couch pull out? I'm hoping we're not expected to sleep 4 people on 2 twin beds! Help! hubofhockey Posted October 3, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 3, 2006 I am under the impression that twin beds do separate. Some of the balcony rooms have a sleeper sofa and an "upper" (a bed out of the wall). Those rooms are identified as such on the deck plans. finoky Posted October 3, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 3, 2006 The couches do not pull out. Only one person will be able to sleep on it.
nybumpkin Posted October 3, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Just had an 8C quad (8270) on Victory - We had a queen-size bed, the convertible sofa (sleeps 1), and a bunk that pulled down from the ceiling.
momofmab Posted October 3, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Okay - it does say that there is an "upper". I didn't know what that meant. Is it a single "upper"? I'm having a hard time grasping that someone who paid quite a bit for the cruise will end up sleeping on a couch  Does Carnival normally book 4 people into this type of room with the intention that someone sleep on a couch? Thanks!
cuyahoga11 Posted October 3, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 3, 2006 The couch folds down into a bed. Diana;)

Catrin Posted October 3, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Actually it converts into a bed. THe room steward will take apart the cushions and set it up as such. Lets see if this pic works...it may be hard to see..... to see the full size check out the 2003 Triumph Pics... Hope that helps! Catrin

Thanks! I haven't slept on the sofa, but my oldest son (15 and taller than I am) thinks it's comfortable. It has a twin-size mattress, and the steward will make it up every day with sheets, blanket and pillow. The upper is just that - a bunk that is above the sofabed. I don't have a picture of the upper "at work," but this picture shows you the layout: http://family.webshots.com/photo/2698574790094346881CoLWSF If you look at the ceiling above the sofabed, you will see a panel in the ceiling - that's the upper. The steward will stow it away during the day so it's not in your way.
DqALEX Posted October 3, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 3, 2006 We had 5 in a room on the Triumph in a cat 12. it was still tight. We now get 2 cabins, its worth it to have two bathrooms, and open the balcony

With four in a cabin, don't forget that three of you can shower and get dressed in the gym locker rooms. Saves time and is less hassle.
nmarsh Posted October 3, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 3, 2006 We have had rooms for three and four people. My sister often comes along and she sleeps on the sofa which she said it was very comfortable, it must have been because she snored a lot:D . Once we had a room for four and both people sleeping on the sofa and in the upper bunk slept well. I would have no problem with this arrangement again. The only issue was the shower, and we did as rwolver672 suggested, two of us went to the gym to shower. It worked out great!!
D4 Posted October 3, 2006 #13 Share Posted October 3, 2006 We had a cabin like that this summer. The 3rd and 4th were our DD and her BF. They were going to trade off sleeping on the sofabed and the upper, but she had to sleep on the sofabed because she is 5'1" and he is 6'2. When you look at the sofabed and the upper straight on, you can see the upper is a lot longer than the sofabed. They were both comfortable. momofmab Posted October 3, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted October 3, 2006 Thanks for the pictures! And the tip about showering in the gym - I was wondering how showers were going to work out with four of us!
