Question about piers in Cozumel...

Recommended Posts

It has been a couple of years since I have been to Cozumel and I have lost track which cruise line is using which pier and am confused on which piers are functional.

Can someone fill me in what the current status is. I remember reading that the Canival pier wouldn't be ready until next year but am not sure if that is accurate.

I will be on the Star Princess in December. Probably too difficult to predict for that cruise but I have no clue how many ships can dock in Cozumel right now.

What day will you be in Cozumel? Currently there are 2 pier spots open. That can change at any point but as of right now that's all that is available. International Pier was the first one to open and was the one used by RCCL before Wilma. Punta Langosta reopened last week and it is the pier that was used by Disney and is downtown. Carnival owns Puerta Maya which is the farthest one out from downtown and is not reopened. As it stands now, it depends as much on how many ships are in port each day as anything.

In December the Star Princess is in port with at least 5 different ships each week (one week it's 7). I would say that while there is a possibility of docking it is still unlikely for the Star Princess since Princess doesn't seem to be getting priority for the docking spots (I don't think a Princess ship has gotten to dock yet, but I may be wrong).

Another pier question -

From the map I have it looks like a fairly easy walk from Punta Langosta to the Ferry dock, but is it?

If not, are taxi vans that can accomodate 6 people available and about how much would that cost?

Yes, its an easy walk to the ferry pier. I seem to recall seeing a Princess ship docked at Punta Langosta last week on the Coz Insider webcam...

You may be right. I haven't been watching the webcam. I just hadn't seen any posts yet that Princess had docked, but with the new pier space open I'm not surprised.

Thank you for your updates!

We will be there December 20th.

It has been awhile since I have been to Cozumel (have been cruising other places than the Caribbean the past few years)- Princess used to use Punta Langosta until Carnival bought them out and I am so used to that pier (great location!). I know they haven't been there for awhile. I pretty much thought the chances were zilch that we would dock there.

I vaguely remember that Carnival's dock won't open until 2007 or 2008 and that it would be a "Y" formation. I don't remember where I read that and don't know when the new estimated date for completion is.

I appreciate everyone filling me in.

Theresa
