duckman715 Posted October 5, 2006 Author #26 Share Posted October 5, 2006 To all of you for providing your insight. I greatly appreciate it. I must confess a little surprise at the number of you who do not think it worth the money versus those who do. But that is exactly the type of honest opinion I was seeking. Thanks for your guidance in helping us make the most of this cruise.
kelmac Posted October 5, 2006 #27 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Maybe $10 for lunch, but not $30 for dinner. This might be the first time we will miss the Pinnacle. The Pinnacle is not the big, upscale show you get on the Millennium class ships of Celebrity. Kel
californiacruiser Posted October 5, 2006 #28 Share Posted October 5, 2006 My husband and I were just on the Statendam for the 4 night repositioning cruise. We had prepaid the $20.00 per person which was honored, however it did increase to $30 p.p. We did it one time previous several years ago on the Ryndam. This time it was not worth the extra price. We both had filet mignon and they were not cooked the way we ordered them, there was no taste and they were very chewy. The side dishes were very good. The desserts were just ok. The service was better than in the main dining room, but the service really is not as good as it was in the past. I would not do it again for the extra charge. Thank you for your first person report it is great to know from an eye eatness.. Especially when paying a premuim you do expect more than ashore..
ColonelBee Posted October 5, 2006 #30 Share Posted October 5, 2006 My wife and I take a cruise on the Westerdam and went to the Western Carribean and my wifef got sick from what appeared to be food poisioning. She was confined to our stateroom for a day and we were given "credit" for things we missed that day. Compliments to HAL! My reason for writing is did anybody else get sick on this cruise? Went to Ochos Rios, Grand Cayman and Costa Maya (Very bad). It seems like HAL kept it very quiet as to how many people got sick. We love HAL and continue to plan on cruising exclusively on this line. I can understand your wanting to know about others, I also understand HAL keeping is quiet. One or two sick passengers wouldn't be reason to alarm everyone; 50 or 60 would be. Sea King Posted October 5, 2006 #32 Share Posted October 5, 2006 isn't the real answer this: what something is "worth" to one person may not be "worth" the same to another flying 1st class vs. coach; staying in a suite vs. an outside cabin; driving a Lexus vs. a Sable; staying in a suite at a Four Seasons vs. a Hilton; going to a 4 star restaurant in Las Vegas vs. a buffet. they're all choices and they're totally subjective if the menu at Pinnacle doesn't appeal to you, don't go if the prices at Pinnacle don't appear to be fair, don't go if you prefer the dining room, go there if you prefer informal at Lido, go there if you like room service, try that Pinnacle is and will remain Pinnacle are you "guaranteed" the perfect meal .. no .. then again, is there any guaranty your meal will be "perfect" in any restaurant is the menu at Pinnacle different than the dining room .. absolutely does different automatically mean "better" .. who knows Pinnacle is an entire experience IMO it's more than price, menu, wine or service alone it's an entire package and IMHO one "worth" experiencing:)
michmike Posted October 5, 2006 #33 Share Posted October 5, 2006 Agree completely w/ sea king and even echoed some of those same sentiments in the debate about the rubes in steerage and the swells in suites on the tipping thread That having been said, our last 2 experiences w/ the Pinnacle were both on Volendam, in Nov '04 and Jan '06. We weren't overly impressed in Nov '04 but decided to give it one more try this past Jan. We were underwhelmed again. Both of our wives' filets were tough and service was brusque at best. We've simply decided that it makes more sense to stick w/ the dining room onboard and spend what we would spend at the Pinnacle (and likely more) on a nice lunch ashore. In fact on our upcoming trip on Westerdam in 2 weeks we'll be having lunch ashore in St Martin and also dinner ashore in Tortola (since we're there 2pm - 10pm). So it isn't really the cost that's an issue, it's the perception of value for the $ spent. MIGHT try the Pinnacle for lunch at $10 per person. Will have to review the menu first.
