KAJOKG Posted October 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We're going on a 5 day cruise on the Enchantment. For formal night I have a long black skirt with a black shell and a very, very sparkly dressy jacket. I know this is fine for HAL, but is RCI a bit more relaxed and will this be too dressy? Everything I've read about the ship sounds great and we so look forward to this cruise...this is our first RCI cruise.
Nitra Posted October 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Not at all. I have a long sequined gown with matching jacket I have worn. This is it except mine is purple and gold...

Everything I've read about the ship sounds great and we so look forward to this cruise...this is our first RCI cruise. We just did the 5 day Bermuda and most people were VERY dressy every night and formal night was EXTREMELY dressy. Many men in tuxes and lots of long sparkly gowns. I too thought it would be "less formal" because it was a shorter cruise and was very pleasantly surprised not only on how nice everyone dressed but that the Maitre D' turned away alot of people for not being dressed appropriately. We personally saw him turn away several in shorts and jeans.
KAJOKG Posted October 6, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Thanks!!! This is our first RCI cruise, and for some reason I had the impression that the line was more casual about formal night. Glad to hear I was wrong. Especially since I just bought the jacket and it wasn't cheap!! Also happy to hear that those in shorts were turned away. Nitra Posted October 6, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2006 A lot of discussion goes on around dress. I think people in general dress more casually these days, but that is what they want to do. I do what I want, and I like to dress up. It makes me feel good and I like being dressed up. You will see many dressed to the nines while others are not. No worries, take your fancy things, enjoy them.

Even on our 4 night cruise, there were a lot of sparkles and baubles on formal night...more were dressed up than not. You will look fabulous! No worries! :) Have a great time! I had the same fear, because my dress is pretty formal. In my opinion, dressing up,which is a thing I never get to do anymore,is a lot of FUN !!! cb at sea Posted October 6, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 6, 2006 On formal night--NOTHING is too dressy! Really! Just look as "hot" as possible!

How nice to see that some Maitre'Ds step up to the plate:)

grandsix Posted October 6, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Agree with KAGOKJ. We say dress up and do your own thing. Don't worry about any one else. It is formal night so you will not be out of place.
ScottieLuvr Posted October 6, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 6, 2006 KAJOG: I just got off Enchantment a few weeks ago. I certainly saw sparkle and a few tuxes. Wear your outfit - it sounds beautiful!

KillaFee Posted October 6, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 6, 2006 That's so awesome that they're finally kicking people in shorts out of the dining room...it's about time! On our Explorer cruise last September the 4 tables surrounding us (they were all friends) wore jeans EVERY NIGHT, even on formal nights!! We felt like we were the ones out of place because of them. Sue L Posted October 6, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 6, 2006 I am amazed and impressed! On my last RCI cruise, I saw outfits on formal night suitable only for the pool. How nice to see that some Maitre'Ds step up to the plate:) This was the first cruise I took since I became addicted to these boards (not sure how I made it on the first 9 without it) I guess I was more aware this cruise because of the "lively" discussions on these boards about the dress code. It turned into a game each night before dinner. We would wait in the back of the usually large group waiting for the dining room doors to open and scope out crowd to see who was wearing shorts or jeans. There were usually only one or two and when the doors opened the Maitre D' would stop them and send them away. By the 4 th night we didn't see anymore shorts or jeans!!!! Ohunion Cruzers Posted October 6, 2006 #17 Share Posted October 6, 2006 Now all we have to do is convince RCI to not allow T-Shirts and other low-life garb in the main dining room.
judyzoo Posted October 6, 2006 #18 Share Posted October 6, 2006 We were on a 5 night cruise on the Enchantment not long ago. Plenty of formal dressing -- sparkly, floor length, tuxes, etc. As formal night should be, IMHO.
beachchick Posted October 7, 2006 #19 Share Posted October 7, 2006 Now all we have to do is convince RCI to not allow T-Shirts and other low-life garb in the main dining room. I do not consider myself "low life" and yet I do own several fun T-shirts. I think perhaps a better word would be "inappropriate" attire. T-shirts have their place and time, but a traditional cruise ship dining room is not one of them. beachchick
AFT_LOVER Posted October 7, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 7, 2006 so you dress to the 9's & look ravishing. The rest of the cruise is casual, as the Smart Casual term is used on 9nt & longer cruises to get a dad more dressy on those nights (sportscoat & nice pants for men with no tie, women in a dress or nice pants with dressy top). I just love it since there is no where to do it at home, even to goto the Cleveland Orchestra I do formal night it. Everyone else in jeans. But we make the newspaper in the Society area...... 1st mate Posted October 7, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 7, 2006 We're going on a 5 day cruise on the Enchantment. My DW and I will be on Enchantment in less than a week. We very much enjoy dressing for dinner. Formal night , for us, is exactly what is implied "Formal". This is something we look forward to as a couple, and if the family is with us, something we look forward to as a family. Formal night is a personal choice. The way we look at this situation: it is our (your) vacation. So, if you enjoy dressing for dinner, then by-all-means, dress up for dinner, every night if you so choose. So, Please wear the Long Black Skirt and Sparkley Jacket and have very enjoyable Romantic evening. You will look "Fantastic". We will dress in formal attire, (if we are on the same cruise) you will not be the only couple dressed for the evening!! HAVE FUN!
