bright eyes Posted October 7, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 7, 2006 My husband and myself are hoping to take the round trip cruise to Hawaii from San Pedro, hopefully before too long. Does anyone know which would be preferable, going in April or October? Also, as this will be our first Princess cruise, and we enjoy a fairly large room and balcony, any recommendations? Thanks for the help!

If you go to the Hawaii forum your questions may be answered more quickly . Also the Island Princess roll calls have a wealth of information. We are leaving in 2 weeks and I will post a review upon our return .
wwinfl91 Posted October 7, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 7, 2006 We did this cruise in fall 2004 and we had a great time. The weather was fine, the two ocean crossings were both uneventful (no rough weather) and the ship and the itinerary are great. I set up a Yahoo group site for the cruise that you can check out if you want. There are some pictures from the cruise, links about the islands and info on what the people on our cruise did in 2004. Here is the link. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/islandprincess100604/ Have a great next cruise.
Tom O. Posted October 7, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 7, 2006 I believe that October will have a little less rain, but any time is a good time for Hawaii. Here is a page that will give you some information about the ship. But, Princess will not be running the Island Princess there after the 2006-2007 season. For the 2007-2008 season it will be the Diamond Princess. http://mysite.verizon.net/res76zxu/princessbalconies/

Pam in CA Posted October 8, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 8, 2006 If you decide to go in the Spring, go on the latest itinerary offered. We were on the last itinerary for the Regal Princess in 2004 before she did the Alaska season and we were the first in several cruises to be able to make all of the ports. When I went last March/April on the Island Princess, it was pretty cool and windy for almost all of our sea days. We made all of our ports but shouldn't have stopped in Lahaina as very rough weather popped up during the day, making tendering back to the ship quite an "adventure," with literally hundreds of people stuck in very bouncy tenders for over an hour... and hour and a half in my case. Unn Posted October 8, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 8, 2006 Hello Bright Eyes, We returned last night from the LA to Hawaii cruise aboard the Island. Weather on the ocean was rough days 1 and 2, and then calmed down. The seas on the return trip were like glass. We had no problems tendering in Lahaina or Kona. In Hawaii I thought it was fairly hot (one day felt like 95* but it was only about 83*) ..... I guess they don't have pollution so the sun seemed very bright. We had a mini-suite and it was well worth it. Our friends had the regular balcony cabin right next to us and they wished they'd had the mini as we had a full sofa and a deeper balcony. I even took a chaise lounge and pad from the pool area and brought it back to our balcony. It was heavenly, except that I kept falling asleep whenever I got on it! Bucky3 Posted October 8, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 8, 2006 Our choice would be September-October. We have cruised from Vancouver to Honolulu and Honolulu to Ensenada twice - fall of 2003 and 2005. Both years had great weather and calm seas. Enjoy! The only rain we encountered was in Hilo, and I understand it rains there often anyway. We did not miss any ports. We had a cabin on the Caribe Deck, and had a very large balcony. We were not on the "bump out" section, so our view was a little less than it would have been on the bump, however, our balcony was larger...............so, your choice. Our balcony was half covered. Hope you have a wonderful cruise, whenever you go........

Nrknits Posted October 12, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 12, 2006 We did this cruise in April 2005. The seas were rough going out the 1st 2 days. We were told this is normal and always happens. has to do with the water depth over the continental shelf (so we were told by the purser's desk). Other than that the seas were fine. However, we did have to miss a port (Kaiui) because of high winds. They closed the port and wouldn't let us dock. We had a helicopter trip planned (not Princess) be sure if you plan an excursion independently that they will not charge you if you have to cancel because the ship does not dock. (Lesson learned. It was finally resoved after alot of handwringing about 3 months later). Overall it was a wonderful trip. I loved all the sea days, my husband was not as thrilled about them. Have a great time.
