caserko Posted October 8, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 8, 2006 Has anyone stayed here pre- or post-cruise? Reviews?
CaliforniaDreamer Posted October 9, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 9, 2006 try looking up reviews for this hotel at TripAdvisor.com just type in the name under the search engine. it is a great resource for finding reviews of hotels around the world. when i was in Waikiki this past saturday, i passed by the Resortquest on the south end of Waikiki near the zoo. is this the one? it looked like most of the rooms had ocean views but it also appeared that there could be a lot of noise. they have a patio with live music and you could hear it down the street. but it also made the place lively. i think the location is great and walking distance to international market, duke's , the beach. etc etc. have fun
Shiraz49 Posted October 9, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2006 This link may help, we're booked in pre & post cruise in December .... not expecting too much from this hotel but then again it really is only a bed for the night and we have seen a lot of reviews that state friendly helpful staff, close to amenities, more than acceptable .... you may however be dissapointed if you're expecting a major 'resort' style hotel. http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-375041-aston_waikiki_circle_hotel-i
spleen93 Posted October 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2006 The Waikiki Beach Hotel (formerly the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel) is small and newly renovated (within the last 2-3 years). The decor is funky with laid-back surfer-style decorations. The rooms are small but comfortable from reports. One of my favorite casual restaurants in Waikiki is here - Tiki's Bar and Grill. http://www.tikisgrill.com/index.php Spleen
bobsydney Posted October 18, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 18, 2006 Just back and stayed at this hotel for a copule of nights precruise. Spleen's description is spot on ... the rooms are comfortable enough but a little on the small size. The room balconies are also fairly small and offer no privacy. Make sure you book an ocean view or better still an ocean front room ... the partial view rooms appear to be a bit down market. Tiki's Restaurant is indeed one of the best we found in Waikiki, and the outside bar/grill is also a great place for a few drinks and/or a lighter meal during the day or even at night with live music playing most of the time. They do an interesting thing for breakfast. The buffet (very basic, but free) is on the pool deck and each person gets a little green cooler bag to put their food in. You can then take it wherever you like to eat ... back to room, on the deck, or over the road to the beach. You can even get a beach chair to take to the beach. bobsydney Posted October 18, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 18, 2006 Meant to add that IMO, the Waikiki Beach hotel is probably the best value hotel along the beachfront strip ... it isn't the cheapest (where you usually get what you pay for), but is certainly much cheaper than the major beachfront ones, including the Marriott just next door. Should note that the WB is at the quiet end of the strip (at the zoo end) so is quieter than those in downtown Waikiki ... but is only a few minutes walk away. A word of caution ... what is described in a hotel description as rooms with an ocean view ain't always so!! At the WB hotel, though, it is. Icare Posted October 24, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2006 I went to this hotel on 10/08 to 10/09 after my cruise on POA. We loved the location! Very convenient with the baby. The beach is accross the street, the ABC stores are everywhere. We walked to the International market too, and the free shuttle for the Hilo Hattie (close to the Ala Moana Shopping Center Mall) stops right in front of the hotel. ;) We hated the elevators, too small for 3 adults and the stroller. The door was also closing very fast, plus the elevator stoped below the floor level, so we had to pull the front of the stroller every time we were exiting. A real pain. Other than that, the staff was nice,we loved the buffet breakfast (at will). I would recommend going before 7:30 to find the most variety (pudding, fruit salad...). Coffee, yogurt, pastry, cereals were available at all times. They offered a small bag with a coloring book and crayons to our toddler, that was nice. We also kept the blue pouch from breakfast and now my husband is using it for his lunch at work.:D The taxi was very expensing from the Pier to Waikiki... $30 for 5 miles! I recommand using those vans who charge $7 per person, no luggage fee. You will not go straight to the hotel and may share with other tourists, but it worth it. We found it in " The best of Oahu" coupon book. Call Chris at 808-753-5593. We booked an ocean view, we ended up with a partial ocean view (on the side of the hotel, facing the marriott, you have the sea on your left). The receptionist said it is what they call an "ocean view". If you want to be facing the sea, they call it "ocean front view" for $40 more/night. I do not want to imagine what they call partial ocean view... Enjoy!
Merry_Sea_Witch Posted October 29, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 29, 2006 We stayed here a couple of times both oceanfront :) but you have to request high floors if music from Tiki Grill bothers you. Partial oceanview will look over the pool and that can be noisy if lots of kids in pool :( BUT BUT BUT we like this hotel cause of the location right across from the beach and also cause of the "Breakfast on the Beach" feature. :) you can fill your cooler to the brim with stuff from the buffet and eat there by the pool or grab a beach chair and walk across the street and eat on the beach !!!:) the funky retro decor is fun too with the surfer theme and bright bedspreads and drapes. some times you need sunglasses they're so bright !!! Bucky3 Posted November 2, 2006 #13 Share Posted November 2, 2006 BEFORE we check in we always find out where the room is located, and if we don't like it, we ask for something else. If they are not full very often you will end up with an ocean view/front without paying extra. We had this happen once in Kona - the assigned room was over the parking lot. We asked to be changed and they moved us to oceanfront - no extra charge! Can't hurt to ask.
