crusinpsychRN Posted October 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Lots of threads about what to take...what about things I WON'T take on my next cruise? All those shoes! I'm leaving most of them at home.
DqALEX Posted October 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2006 The more cruises I go on the less I bring. If Carnival ever drops formal night no dress shoes, jacket, tie.

campdaan Posted October 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 10, 2006 These are suggestions for some folks: The Nextel phone or any cell phone for that matter. Walkie-Talkies...especially ones that chirp or make some noise after every click. Those shoes that have the skate-wheel in the heel. Swim diapers. If you are thinking of joining the Hairy Chest Contest and you are middle-aged leave the Speedo home. And lastly, The paperback book, the Flip-Flop or the Non Carnival Beach towel that you "Save" a lounge chair with...Leave that home too.

MamaParrotHead Posted October 10, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I took copious amounts of notes from all of the packing lists here on CC before my first cruise, ended up taking about 75% of what was on those lists. Turned out I needed about 10% of it. I'm leaving the post it notes, highlighters, shoe holder/hanger things, and all the rest of it. EXCEPT for the duct tape, extension cord and insulated mug. I actually needed it this summer when the zipper on my suitcase busted (luckily the airline people have their version of duct tape and handled it for me). Those things, plus about half of the clothing I brought last time...really only wore 3-4 shorts/shirt outfits during the day, and next time will be doing "mix and match" on dinner clothing. HUNNY BUN Posted October 10, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I took 2 huge suitcases, a carry-on suitcase and a tote bag last cruise. I've vowed this time to cut the huge suitcase to 1. The carry-on will be different this time due to airline regulations, so I don't know exactly how that will work out for me. But lugging all the luggage (now I know where it gets its name!) around the airports is for the birds! I should take my DM's advise - wear one and take one - that would certainly cut down on the excess!!

crusinpsychRN Posted October 10, 2006 Author #16 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Hunny Bun--Oh my gosh! You reminded me of all the needless luggage we took. I'll never take wardrobe bags for formals!! I lugged those things all over creation! And I'm not loading up my soft side cooler either! Packing it and filling it later.

tkportersat Posted October 10, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Definitely less shoes! My cruise in May I had a suit case just for shoes, I have no idea what I was thinking???? And I could certainly leave a few clothes at home, I never come close to wearing everything.
Mysticks1 Posted October 10, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Well.. if I can threadjack just a bit..here's a good list of things people should not have brought, but tried to anyway.. - live bees - fishing spear gun - oxygen tanks for diving - microwave - flare gun Okay, I can see the reasoning behind all of those except the live bees  . Could they not do without fresh honey?? Did they give reasons for taking them? Just wondering.
Guest CRUZIN' SUZIN Posted October 10, 2006 #22 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Half the shoes, 2 pair of sneakers, half the clothes, 2 bathing suits, most of the make-up, all the custom jewelery, the shampoo, shower gel, 2 of the 3 different kinds of body lotion, mouth wash, dental rinse, the cologne, the robe, 2 of the 3 windbreakers, batteries (for what  ), birth certificate (have passport). What I won't bring takes up more space than what I will bring.

Cruzfan34 Posted October 10, 2006 #24 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Shoes. I'm bringing ONE pair of dressy heels (not 3 pairs like last time)...one pair of slip-on tennis shoes, and one pair of flip-flops....I think I brought about 5 pairs of sandals last time and it was a five day cruise. :p
Cruzfan34 Posted October 10, 2006 #25 Share Posted October 10, 2006 - live bees Funny you should mention the bees. I was stung on the rear-end by a bee on the way to Galveston for our last cruise. We had stopped at McDonald's to meet up with the rest of our party and when I got into our truck to leave again....WHAM. It must have been on the seat and I sat on it. Stung me on my right "cheek". Not fun.
