TNC010100 Posted October 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I leave on Freedom on Sunday and wondered if they have irons on board? I know you can send stuff out to be pressed, but what about in the stateroom? Thanks.
wrp96 Posted October 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2006 No irons or ironing boards allowed on the ship. They are a fire hazard.

wrp96 Posted October 10, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Most of my stuff doesn't wrinkle due to the way I pack. But I just use the steam from the shower to get most wrinkles out or send items off to be pressed.
Sheffie Posted October 10, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I put dry cleaner bags around my hanging clothes, and they hardly get wrinkled at all. A steamer, or hanging them in the bathroom when we shower helps to get the other wrinkles out. The humid Caribbean helps, too!

Happy cruising.
mommabean Posted October 10, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Wow- thanks - so you just wear wrinkled clothes?:p Yes! And no one cares. :p Or maybe they do and I just don't know it. :D But really, I learned the dry cleaner bag trick on here and it works great for the things you really want to look good - like formal wear. Pack carefully with as few folds as possible. And fold where the creases will look normal, like at the shoulder seams. Nicely folded clothes just look fresh. Or you can do like my second son used to do and wad them up and stuff them in the bag and not care one way or the other what anyone thinks...he didn't notice, so why should they? :)

Hooked on Cruises Posted October 10, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I just got off FOS this Sunday and I brought my own travel iron + mat (Bed Bath and Beyond) and nobody ever said anything. It was nice to have it in case we did get some of the clothes wrinkled. I did bring a copy of laundromat cost, and I can post it tonight? Would you like to have the prices? SimplyAddicted Posted October 10, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I use a travel mini steamer. It is much safer than an iron and works much better, too!
MGoBlue2 Posted October 10, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 10, 2006 Bring a coffee pot, turn it on and sit the empty carafe on it until it gets super hot and use it to iron your clothes. Also, don't both to turn it off when you leave - it isn't a fire hazard like an iron.

cruisinfanatic Posted October 10, 2006 #13 Share Posted October 10, 2006 On my Explorer cruise last month, the cruise director actually said "irons are not allowed". Said it during muster drill so everyone would hear.
cb at sea Posted October 11, 2006 #14 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Nowhere does it say that irons aren't allowed! It says that RCI doesn't PROVIDE IRONS, and I think it's because there's no room for ironing boards!!!! We always bring a travel iron--no problem--the room stewards know about it and because we're responsible people, we keep it unplugged when not in use! Irons are no more a fire hazard than the teapots the Brits bring or the curling iron almost every woman has onboard!!!!!!

During our cruise on Enchantment this weekend, the CD read a special message about fire safety prior to the conclusion of the drill. In the message, they explicitly stated that irons are not allowed on board due the fire hazard they constitute. I'd never heard it read before but thought it was a great idea, b/c clearly some people think the rules do not apply to them.

It says that RCI doesn't PROVIDE IRONS, and I think it's because there's no room for ironing boards!!!! That is not correct. Your Royal Caribbean cruise documents state that irons are NOT ALLOWED on board. This is included in the cruise documents I received just last Friday. Cruise Vacation Guide, page two Getting Ready What Not to Pack. For the safety of our guests, the following items are not allowed on board. Electrical transformers Irons Coffee Makers Candles Illegal Drugs Flammable liquids and explosives such as fireworks

mommabean Posted October 11, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 11, 2006 As others have said this is what RCI states. "Please note: We do not provide irons in the staterooms as they constitute a fire hazard." How can anyone "think" they don't provide irons because there is not room for an ironing board. Isn't it obvious what the real reason is? Their iron, your iron...still a fire hazard. RCI makes that very clear.

Here is the response that I received from an email I sent to RCI regarding travel irons. Dear Mr. Zoellner,Irons and ironing boards are not available for use onboard Royal Caribbean International ships. Nor, are guests permitted to bring one onboard as they constitute a fire hazard. However, guests may bring a portable travel clothes steamer. Full laundry service is available for a nominal service fee.Thank you for choosing Royal Caribbean International.Collin SteinkeCustomer Service Representative [THREAD ID:1-2ILXQI]-----Original Message-----From: xxxxxxxxxx@xxxxxxSent: 8/27/2006 06:28:39 PMTo: web_reservations@rccl.comSubject: Other, Navigator Of The Seas, 20/Jan/2007, xxxxxxxZoellner,RichardCountry of Residence: USAMy cruise information: Booking ID: xxxxxxx Ship: Navigator Of The Seas Sail Date: 20/Jan/2007Issue: I have received conflicting information and am hoping you can help me.
