crusingmama Posted October 10, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I have posted this before but have not gotten an answer. Can someone help me? I read about some cruise lines having something called "Luggage Express". I was wondering if RCCL offers this or has anyone had any experience with this. What if all your luggage don't make it to the airport or even worse don't make it back home when you do? Who is responsible for the loss of luggage? GMoney Posted October 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 10, 2006 I only carry on, so I rarely pay attention to luggage issues, but I think X offers it and RCI does not. You might post on the X boards.

Hey down in Duck and Rice country from a fellow Arkansan! Are you talking about the Onboard Luggage Valet Service where you are checked in onboard the ship and given your boarding passes and the like? If so, RCCL does have this service, but not in every port and not for every airline. Which airline are you flying? Where are you cruising from? crusingmama Posted October 11, 2006 Author #4 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Hey WRP96, my first time to talk to someone so close to home. We are doing the Mexican Riviera on Jan 14, 2007, out of Los Angeles on the Vision of the Seas. We are flying out on Continental Airlines. Are you guys going out anytime soon. If so where and when....? We went to Alaska in May 2006 and can't wait to go again.
wrp96 Posted October 11, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Cruisinmama, my next cruise is out of Ft. Lauderdale in February. I'm doing the Vision cruise next October though. You'll have to let me know how your cruise goes. I don't think RCCL has the luggage valet service in San Pedro yet so I wouldn't count on it. BTW, some of my family's from Stuttgart. I may be getting a central Arkansas cruise critic group together. Email me at wrpierce at sbcglobal dot net if you are interested.

What if all your luggage don't make it to the airport or even worse don't make it back home when you do? Who is responsible for the loss of luggage? There are three airlines that do this and I can only remember two. :o American and Delta definitely have this service. We had this from Miami to home. For $10 a person, you can sign up for it during your time on board. It was well worth it to us not to have to drag luggage around. They have the forms at the pursers desk if you do not receive one in your room with your Cruise Compass. We did a Saturday to Saturday cruise and the form had to be returned to the pursers by Thursday. On the form, you give them your name, how many are traveling with you, your flight numbers, times, how many pieces of luggage you will be checking. On the last night of the cruise, your cabin attendant will deliver the airline packet to your room. There will be the colored tags that RCCL gives you, the boarding passes for everyone (clear on through to your final destination), and the airline luggage tags. You put the colored tags on the bags, the airline baggage tags on and place them in the hall as you would normally do. People who use this service get Lavender RCCL tags. (we were given priority white ones, but did not use them because of the express service.) We were called off the ship at 7:00 am. We went to the Delta Lavender carousel and got our bags. We had a porter take them to the Delta area where all the express luggage is lined up. We went to the airport and our bags were on our plane when we landed in Rochester, NY. We had a 4:10 pm flight, so we took this option because we were going to stay around Miami for the day. But, as luck would have it, it was raining pretty hard, so we just went to the airport and sat for the day. Warning: Call the pursers desk and confirm you are getting the service on your last evening.. Our next door cabin neighbors saw us in the airport and told us they were never told that they had been rejected from doing the luggage Express. They did not find out until they called the desk to ask where their packet was. No one would give them an explanation as to why. Any questions, just holler.;) __________________

LadeeBug100 Posted October 11, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 11, 2006 Does anyone know how long AA is around to take your luggage? I know the service is offered for flights after 12:00, but I don't like the idea of having to get off of the ship at 7AM. I plan to use the service for a 3:20 flight out of Minami on Sunday. We will go to Bayside, but they do not open ubtil 11:00 AM. I was thinking about 10 AM will be a good time to disembark(that is if they are still around to receive my luggage). If you use this service, you can not stay on board until 10:00 according to what we received.. We were told we had to disembark when our color lavender was called because the people using this service are all let off at the same time. (All people using this service are given lavender tags.) We were informed we would be called between 7:30 and 8:30 am. It turned out we were called at 7:00 am. You must leave the ship to claim your luggage and take it to the area for the Express. They want to clear the baggage carousel's of all the express luggage so they can use them for the remainder of the people on board. By the time we cleared customs/immigration it was about 8:00am. 8:30 by the time we got our luggage and took it to the area for Express. This was Miami also. Ask on board if you can leave later. ;)
crusingmama Posted October 13, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted October 13, 2006 Thanks so much for all the help. It looks as if I won't be able to use this service as we are traveling on Continental Airlines and it doesn't seem to be likely that they offer this however, we may check with them anyway, it won't hurt. We are going in a day early to see alittle of Lax before we cruise and we have a late flight on our return and we didn't want to drag our luggage everywhere we went. We went to Alaska in May of this year and it was a disaster from the very beginning. We missed our cruise 2 days and had to wait for the ship to catch up with us in Juneau, AK. We had to make an emergency landing in Colorado Springs and were stranded there for 7 hours before we left the airport. Then when we got to Seattle the airlines got our tickets all mixed up and we didn't make our connections on to Juneau but our luggage did. We were left in Seattle without our luggage because it left without us. We caught the ship in Juneau two days late so we want to be on the ship when it leaves this time.
