BeBeReader Posted October 23, 2006 #26 Share Posted October 23, 2006 Excuse me, I was tired and didn't proof read too well. Of course the word is spelled "prophylactically". And you are not an M.D.

BeBeReader Posted October 23, 2006 #28 Share Posted October 23, 2006 OK, Dr. Timbo. You are partially correct. I am partially correct. Let's leave it at that. It is not all or nothing, but shades of gray. The prescription drugs DH and I took were prescribed and were taken as discussed prior to the trip with doctors. Drugs are often prescribed and taken prophylactically. But we did not take the antibiotics prophylactically in this case. For example, if you have surgery, it is typical to be placed on an antibiotic prophylactically after the surgery in the event that there should be an infection and without knowing if there is one. I stand by saying that it is a good idea to take antibiotics along with you, with doctor's approval, on international trips in the event there is a problem. I agree that antibiotics should not be taken casually in the event that if you need treatment, they will not be effective. I am NOT an M.D. But I have talked to a lot of them, personally and professionally, and a READ a lot to keep informed. Some M.D.'s terrific, and some not so much. Just like lawyers. :D BeBeReader
LKJ Posted October 26, 2006 #29 Share Posted October 26, 2006 Anyone who hasn't been on the St Petersburg Metro elevator has no idea how steep and long the ride is to the bottom. Perhaps Oceania should caution people. Even though I'm young, I felt uneasy with the incline and was happy to finally reach the bottom. Holding on firmly is essential. So for anyone not too stable or loosing your grip, then it could be a real problem. I can't imagine falling on that escalator....So don't judge if you haven't been there. It isn't like a typical US escalator............Sorry to hear about your injury.
