Hojo's redbeard Posted October 11, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 11, 2006 I've seen conflicting reports as to what is in the room, but wanted to make sure before packing. Are there DVD players in the rooms on the Westerdam? We are in a VC. I know I won't be watching any, but DD may want to. Many thanks.
Blackneto Posted October 11, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 11, 2006 if there are and they are the same type that we had on Volendam you could do what I did. I figured they would be the type that play any kind of media. I filled a cd with mp3's that the wife and I like to listen to. I popped it into the player when we arrived and put it on random play. whenever we wanted Our music in our cabin we'd turn on the TV, change over to the DVD input and listened while reading or out on the verandah. Listning to Fleetwood Mac and the Doobie brothers while taking in the sights at Glacier Bay was surreal.
KalenaD Posted October 12, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 12, 2006 We had a VF balcony on the Westerdam last dec. There was NO dvd player in our cabin. I believe, and I would call to confirm, that you can "check " them out from the library.
caribbeanchickie Posted October 12, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 12, 2006 I asked HAL this very question about 2 weeks ago and received a reply that YES, VC category have DVD players. :)
Davey Interweb Posted October 12, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 12, 2006 Any HAL ship that has had the Signature of Excellence upgrades will have a DVD player; HAL has indicated that this program will be complete by the end of 2006. I believe someone here had said that Westerdam's upgrades were completed (a post from a couple of months ago?). FWIW, we were on Zaandam a couple of weeks ago, and both our Verandah cabin as well as our friends' inside cabin had DVD players and LCD TVs. Baseball Lover Posted October 14, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 14, 2006 It was my understanding that the Westerdam did NOT have DVD players because the ship was so new and they didn't want to pull out the new TVs to put in TVs w/DVD players like the other Vista Class ships. Forgive me for not believing HAL on this, but if someone who will be traveling on the Westerdam in a regular cabin could clarify what exactly they have, I'm sure I'm not the only person who would appreciate it. Thanks a bunch! Molly

Baseball Lover Posted October 15, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 15, 2006 *chuckle* I appreciate the link, but there seems to be as many conflicting opinions on that thread as there are here. I would love to hear from someone who has been on the Westerdam very recently or will be soon. Also... if there are no DVD players, I'm wondering if there is an easy way to plug in a portable DVD player and watch it on the TV. And as much as I apprecieate a good guess... in this case I'd like to know for sure. :) Thanks, Molly
caribbeanchickie Posted October 23, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 23, 2006 We got off the Westerdam Oct 22- 5026, NO DVD players despite HAL e-mailing and confirming YES they had them. Pfft:mad:
