Help! I'm so confused.....

Oh dear, I'm getting so confused about what to plan to do in Jamaica. I've started to get really uneasy about just doing my own thing. From reading all the reviews it doesn't seem like a port to just potter around and do your own thing. The two best excursions to book seem to be either Dunns Falls or Tubing. Unfortunately, due to recent leg surgery, both are out for my friend and I. We really don't want to just stay on the ship while in port. It would be such a shame as we have never been to Jamaica before. Can anyone recommend a shore excursion for us? We would truely appreciate help from more expert travellers who have been to Jamaica before. Oh we will be visiting Ocho Rios.

You will have the best time in Jamaica if you hire a private driver and just do whatever you want to do. If you don't know, ask your driver to suggest something.

If you've never been to Jamaica and are docking in Ocho Rios, I would definately climb Dunns River Falls. Tubing is also a nice experience but will take most of your time. You can do the falls in about an hour. Wtih the remaining time, there are cool places to shop off the beaten path if you ask your driver. He will also take you to get some "real" jerk chicken and beef patties, etc. You just have to ask.

My suggestion would be to climb the falls and then enjoy riding around Ocho Rios stopping whereever your heart desires.

Phil Lafayette is a good driver and always busy. I can recommend another JUTA driver in the area if you are interested.

Just contact any of the JUTA drivers, tell them what you are interested in and see what they can offer you.

I just got back this week from my cruise and per the recommendations here used Marva at knowjamaica.com. I told her excatly what I wanted (the falls, tubing on the White River and a couple of hours at the beach) and she arranged exactly that for me. She was prompt, the bus she used was beautiful and clean, and Reggae Beach was a gorgeous white sand beach. The beach also did not have vendors trying to sell you something every 5 minutes! What a plus!! I know she offered other options for people less inclined to do water activities.

I love Jamaica! Enjoy your visit!

I agree that contacting a couple of the tour operators and asking what your options are would be your best bet. There were 11 in our group in August, with ages ranging from 1 yr to 55 yrs and we used A-Z Planners. We had a great day and can't wait to go back to Jamaica.

Go to Dunn River Falls. Once there, you can either walk up falls in the water or walk the paved area right next to it. She can walk up a little, and watch you climb the falls and be your photographer. Also, there is a beach there were she can wait if she cannot walk at all. Even a cast couldn' stop me from at least checking it out.

I can't imagine Dunn's Falls working for you then. It sounds okay that you can walk along the falls, but everyone remember all those stairs???? It's very tiring going back up those stairs. I have a low back injury that causes weakness in lifting my leg...and I had to stop several times while trying to get back up to the vehicle. I would just stick to sight-seeing, and that would probably be a great day. Jamaica is a pretty country...so you should be able to find something fun to see!!

Thanks very much everyone for your help. I feel a little better now and will probably book one of the RCL sight seeing tours for Jamaica. I'm not sure how to go about contact 'JUTA Drivers' or A - Z Planners so will stick with RCL. Sorry - please excuse my ignorance - its our first time cruising the Caribbean and RCL. In fact, the last cruise we did was over 10 years ago and just a 4 night out of Los Angeles. Can't wait to leave the wet windy weather we are having here in New Zealand at the moment!!! :)
