Volendam dance floors, number and size?

happy cruzer

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have been on the sister ship of the Volendam many years ago, the Rotterdam.

I seem to remember a dance floor in the Ocean Bar and in the crow's nest. I remember the one in the Ocean bar was pretty small and got crowded. Don't remember a disco/ nightclub on board. Also don't remember any dancing in the showroom.

Can anyone tell me about the dance floors on the Volendam? Any info on kinds of music played too would be welcome.

I know we will have a great time just want to know what to expect.

Thanks.

Your recollection is very good. We were on the Volendam in February and danced almost every night in the Crow's Nest. The dance floor there is pretty good size though I can't give you specific measurements. It's a lot larger than the one in the Ocean Bar. On our cruise, and I understand this can vary from cruise to cruise, we had a small 4-piece band in the Crow's Nest. Not the greatest singers but it was still live music and we enjoyed it not being a disc jockey. They played a fairly large variety of music from soft rock and roll to country. I'd say it was pretty standard stuff for a small group but certainly not "big band". The showroom dance floor is only open for special occasions so I'd say it's rarely available. I'm not aware of any other dance floors on the Volendam.

There is also dancing in the Seaview Lounge, which is part of the piano bar. There has always been a small group or soloist playing/singing there on our cruises on the Rotterdam, Volendam, and Zaandam. The dance floor is small, but the audience is too, so it works out great. The music there is always better (to my taste) than in the Crow's Nest or Ocean Bar, but that's just me. On the Rotterdam, it is called the Ambassador Lounge, so maybe you have been there. It's just aft of the Casino Bar and Shopping Arcade. Enjoy!

Hi, thanks for the replies. I think part of the reason I have trouble remembering the different spots is because I forgot a big detail, the cruise that I was on was a themed one - Big Band theme with the Tommy Dorsey band so at least on a third of the nights there was a big band show going on. they may not even have had music in the Ambassoder most nights.

Is there ever a jazz/latin combo playing? I think on my cruise there was a classics band like Frank Sinatra music, the strings, and a rock style band. They were all good but I did miss music with a latin flair. Of course the Tommy Dorsey band put on a great show.

Lots of nice choices, I think the Crows Nest has the best venue but they are all nice.

The entertainment in the Seaview Lounge (or whatever name it is called on the other "R" class ships) is just one person or a small duo or trio, because the venue is small. There's a small raised are with a piano and a small dance floor with seating around it plus some more by the windows across the walkway. It is very comfortable and there is a bar and servers. I like this smaller format and you get to know the entertainers really well. But you never know what type of music there will be ahead of time. You could call HAL or ask a question on these boards near your cruise date. I don't know how far in advance HAL could tell you who exactly was playing.:)
