Xel-ha too far from Cozumel?

We would like to book this excursion on our cruise in Jan, but I hear Xel-ha is far from Cozumel. The excursion is 5 hours long, does anyone know if that gives us any time at Xel-ha? I was thinking maybe an hour there and an hour back would leave us with 3 hours at Xel-ha.

If that is too far does anyone have a closer good snorkeling spot?

Thanks

Robin

I don't know what the tour company does for transportation but the ferry from Cozumel to Playa Del Carmen takes about 1/2 hour. From P.D.C., Xel Ha is probably about a one hour drive south, near Tulum. This is only a guess but I think you'll have closer to two hours at Xel Ha than three. Although last year's hurricane damaged the low lying reefs on Cozumel, snorkeling is still pretty good. Look into Chankanaub Park or Dzul Ha beach. Buenas Suerte!
