RoryS Posted October 17, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 17, 2006 We requested our seating for 6:15. Are the times confirmed or will we have to wait til we get on board to find out if we have definite seatings for 6:15? Also, being that we arrive back somewhat late from our excursions, how much leeway is allowed to get to the dining room? Is it like a restaurant reservation in that if you are 15 minutes late; they give your table away?:)

If you need to change it, head to the dining room and meet with Matre D immediately. Please don't be more than ten minutes late for dinner...that puts your servers behind and everyone at your table behind. There was a couple that sat near us on our Miracle cruise that was at least thirty to forty five minutes late every night. It was soooo annoying! Your table is assigned to you...no giving it away, but it does mess up the flow when folks are late.

They do not give your table away, but arriving too late is considered pretty dang rude to the rest of your table mates and can cause some disruptions to the process followed by the servers. There is always the Lido...
Cotton Posted October 17, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 17, 2006 I've actually seen the Maitre d' close the dining room doors a few minutes after sevice has begun. As a courtesy to your tablemates and waitstaff, if you're running even 10 minutes late, I'd suggest having dinner at Lido buffet that night.:)

This was actually on my first cruise and I had Early Seating at 5:45 which proved to be a rush for me to make almost every night! I asked the waitstaff and they told us that as long as we arrived between 5:45 and 6:00 they were happy to accomodate us. The doors were closed 15 min after the scheduled start of dinner on that cruise. By the way....our party filled a table that cruise BUT we still did not want to hold anything up so we made sure that if one of my kids was still getting ready at least a couple of people went to the DR ON TIME and could place the order for those who were running a few minutes late as it was posted outside the DR all day and also available on the TV. abitaturbodog Posted October 17, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 17, 2006 Last year on the Glory, we requested a 6:15 dinner time and although our PVP told us it was a done deal, we ended up with 5:45 on our s&s card. I immediately went to the Maitre'd and he told me he couldn't change it. He told me that we should arrive 30 minutes late to dinner every night. Our family had it's own table so we didn't disrupt table-mates, and although it was a little wierd walking into the restaurant late everynight, we were just following the Maitre'd instructions. We skipped the salad course every night, so we ended up finishing our dinner at about the same time as everyone else.

tankersbabe Posted October 17, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 17, 2006 Question: If you decide not to go to the dining room for dinner on any given night, do you need to contact anyone to let them know you won't be attending? Definitely let your servers know, if you know the night before. Especially if you are going to the specialty restaurant and KNOW that you won't be attending dinner in the dining room. That way they are waiting on you. If it is unplanned, do the best you can.
habby Posted October 17, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 17, 2006 Does anyone know the table sizes on the Elation? Check the deck plans. That should give you a pretty good idea. At least, I know the dining room setup on the Destiny was really close, if not exact, to the seating chart on the deck plan.

We have sailed Elation twice, she is a beautiful ship. We were sad to see her leave Galveston. I'm sure you will enjoy Elation as much as we did. Happy cruising! :)
caribbean dreams Posted October 17, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 17, 2006 Question: If you decide not to go to the dining room for dinner on any given night, do you need to contact anyone to let them know you won't be attending? We eat in the formal dining room everynight except second formal, the night before we let our waiter and tablemates know we will not be attending. Cotton Posted October 17, 2006 #16 Share Posted October 17, 2006 Last year on the Glory, we requested a 6:15 dinner time and although our PVP told us it was a done deal, we ended up with 5:45 on our s&s card. Your PVP was obviously incorrect, as dining times are never assured (unless you're a Platinum status passenger). Maybe the 'done deal' was that your request for 6:15 had been turned in...? I immediately went to the Maitre'd and he told me he couldn't change it. He told me that we should arrive 30 minutes late to dinner every night. That is really, really strange for a Maitre d' to say that. Even though you were out of there the same time as others (because you skipped the salad course), it could have taken y'all longer to finish your meal. Which, in turn, would have made the waiters have to go into hurry-up mode to get the table ready for the next diners. Odd, indeed for a Maitre d'.;)
