Dress arrived, now jewelry options

My dress arrived yesterday, fits like a dream and is already at the tailor being hemmed.

I have decided to wear a pair of chocolate brown satin d'orsay pumps with black lace trim at the toe.

The neckline is quite deep, especially with my chest.

I am still thinking my fairly hefty gold woven omega choker would be a winner with this along with a chunky gold cuff. But then what about earrings?

Ideas appreciated...

you and i have the same taste in dresses! The first time i saw that dress, i loved it!

To be honset with you, i don't think i would wear any earrings especially if you are wearing a choker style necklace and not one that will hang lower.

PLEASE take photos of you in the dress though! It is amazing!

I have almost the same dress in black - mine is more of a wrap - am a 36DD - thinking of going with some really bling bling earrings and not wearing a necklace.

Caviargal - I have the feeling you already have a relationship with your tailor, but how did you go about finding him/her? My new full-length formal is TWO layers that must be hemmed & I have no idea how to find someone to do this for me. Also, if you don't mind sharing, can you give a price range for this service?

I was thinking of trying the local bridal shop, figuring they would have a seamstress for alterations, but I'm guessing that might be pricey. I'd like to be able to comparison shop, but don't know where else to look to compare. :)

She is charging me $28 for the hem and it is two layers also. I know the fabric makes it harder to work on as well.

I moved here two years ago and asked family and friends for referrals. I also have had good luck when asking ladies that work in the higher end department stores or local boutiques as they have clients who tell them about good people.

Good luck!

All: I remembered last night that I purchased a pair of olive, citrine and topaz earrings last winter at Swarovski in Austria that are chunky and bordered in gold. I tried them on and they looked great with the dress and added some color (brown hair, brown eyes and brown  dress) was too monochramatic.

Thanks!

I have very short hair and a thin, oval face so chandelier earrings make me look like a hound dog.:( I wish I could wear them because there are some great ones out there but anything that makes my face look longer is a fashion don't.

I am going to pack a few different options for necklaces and earrings I suspect and decide at the last minute. Unless of course, Jane and I find the perfect pair in NY this weekend:D.

Thanks ladies!

Hi, Caviargal,

I love the dress, my style completley and the shoe sounds fantastic.

I would do the jewelry a little different.

I would wear a "lariat" style necklace for lack of a better choice of words to call it Doesn't have to be lariat, but I think that is the only way I can describe it, or at least something that is longer than a "collar or coaker". Like what the model is wearing in the picture.

Something that falls to the cleavage and I agree about the chunky earrings, perhaps big gold clips, I recently saw a pair at a local jewelr, they were quite large, square yellow gold with a round center ball of diamonds.

I would not wear a big huge cuff, I would rather wear maybe 5 think bangles or a tennis bracelet.

Just my thoughts. Wear in the best of health and happiness it's a beautiful dress

I love the dress. Esp in the brown. And, if it fits really well, it's stunning.

When I think of matte jersey........I think of a lighter, clingy material.

I think your choice of "hefty" gold choker and large cuff bracelet may be great. Esp if you dark-complexioned, or well-tanned and large enough to pull it off like the model.

If you are fair-complexioned and/or more slight, I agree with Mrs Moose, you might want to try a more delicate, relaxed chain that "hangs in your curves" :) with a a sculptured row of stones or a "lariat" type necklace and smaller bracelet?

Someone on the thread had a good idea I liked about trying tourquoise accessories which would give you a whole other, less formal look and a 2nd/other chances to wear this dress!

This is a great dress that I think you'll want to try several "types" of accessories with to find what looks best with your body-type and coloring and intent (formal or less formal). When you "hit" the right one(s)...........you'll know it! I "see" several different ladies wearing very different accessories with this particular dress.

I'm in love with the shoes.

The only thing I DO have a real preference for is that if you do decide that the hefty Gold omega chain and your real gold cuff look great on you w. the dress.......you need to wear earrings that are not costume, but real gold, whatever they are. Either do the "real" bling or the costume thing. Don't mix?

Marty and MrsMoose, thanks for the ideas and suggestions.

I actually can see this dress accessorized with turquoise (did not think of that and love the idea) for a less formal occasion. I plan to wear this dress on formal night on our wedding cruise next month (for dinner the evening of the ceremony actually) , so prefer a more dressy look this time around.

I am not a fan of costume jewelry and only have a few pieces. Most of it irritates my skin and I also just have a preference for the real thing. I thought of the Swarovski because of the colors but agree that it probably needs to be all real gold and not costume to get the look I want.

I have an olive complexion and most always have a tan. The dress is definitely clingly but the fabric is a rich and heavy matte jersey, typical David Meister , and also two layers which provides even more body.

I look best in bold pieces and most of the jewelry I wear often and enjoy the most is not delicate in style. For example, I love John Hardy and his styles are bold and somewhat ethnic and look well on me. This is the style of jewelry I prefer:

I am not a delicate woman, neither in stature nor in style and, although I have a few more restrained pieces, I am far more comfortable in a bold gold cuff than a strand of pearls.

I think I shall definitely bring along a selection and try them on that evening to decide.

Thanks again everyone for the ideas and thoughts:)

I'm with you on the "BOLD" gold, given your stature, coloring and your comfort and confidence level. It is a very big occaision..send us all a picture when you can?

You'll be "drop dead" in that brown dress! Best yet, you're already confident about your choices for accessories! Not to mention that you've also selected the best ever shoes for that dress.

Save that dress and on your next cruise try the turqouise some have mentioned to do a semi-formal night and wear it again!??!!

Have the best cruise ever. Marty

I agree either all real or all costume, but I never figured you for likeing costume. I agree with you personally. I too like large pieces of jewlery as opposed to delicate styles.

You know what looks best in terms of style, but there is one other option looking at the Hardy collection which is very nice btw, something that is very popular now and could work, is a heavy necklace with a "drop or enhancer" is what I think they are called.

John Hardy shows it like a thick neclace with a big oval "pendant". I've seen similar on "chain link neclace doubled with a big chunky semi precious stone like smokey quartz" I think something like a long gold chain doubled so it's short with a large smokey quartz (brown family). You could do large chunky smokey quartz earrings or just chunky gold earrings and your gold cuff.

I agree for a formal look I would not do turquoise, but that would be great as you say for less formal look.

You absolutely positively must post the photos from your wedding cruise!
