:D :p To begin with I have used this board many times but I am posting under a "new" name for my other half will not reconize me since this post is about our upcoming Holland cruise.

We will be celebrating on the cruise and I need some ideas. I am planning on booking a suite and would like ideas as to which on most would reccommend. We will be sailing on the vista class ships. I am opposed to the forward cabin but the rest is wide open. I have heard alot about the aft cabins and wake veiws. Does there tend to much shade back there?

I would aslo like reccommendations on getting a cabana from HMC, which one, how soon to book it, all the good things.

I just really need alot of help and I am sure I will have more questions......thank so far.......

You probably won't get a lot of shade on the aft balconies, but that may or may not be a problem depending on how much you like the sun. They have a bit of an overhang but the majority of the balcony is exposed.

If you're planning to book a suite, definately go for the SA, SB, or SC suites - these give you access to the Neptune Lounge. We were fortunate to have a suite once, and the lounge was great - anything you can do at the front desk, the concierge will take care of for you, and they have a wide assortment of food and snacks, plus coffees, teas and cappucinos throughout the day. The SY's etc. don't have this perk.

I'd say that depends mainly on which direction you're heading and when. Or which way the ship faces when in port.

Generally, going south, or east in the morning, or west in the afternoon you'll have shade.

Since most cruises are loops, on average you would get shade half the daylight time, same as on any verandah! :D

I can't help with a lot here except for the Cabana. You should check the excursions for your cruise as soon as you book and keep checking. I checked almost daily waiting for the Cabana's to become available. They go quick! We have our first in December and just can't wait!

Enjoy your undercover work! I hope to do the same for my hubby some day. My mom as done this for a trip to Rome. The TA gave it away when they called to confirm a flight - unfortunately - but they still had fun with the concept.

Blessings!

There are 10 aft corner suites on the Westerdam, Oosterdam, and Zuiderdam that have amazingly deep verandas which also curve around to port or starboard. The HAL deck plans are drawn to scale, so you can compare the differences in cabin and veranda size there. From your post, I can't tell whether you want shade or would prefer to avoid it.

If you want shade, the verandas on the two suites on the Navigation deck -- 8128/8135 -- are covered by the Lido Deck above. If you prefer sun, the verandas on the other decks -- 7132/7133, 6158/6169, 5186/5187, and 4180/4185 -- have much less overhang from the respective deck above. These are quite simply great cabins. The rooms are a bit smaller than the suites on the sides, but the verandas are to die for. Once you've been in one, you'll be spoiled from booking anywhere else on these ships!

Just upgraded from 2 SS to 2 SA suite's for our Nov. cruise on Zuiderdam...I'm also trying to keep it a secret from DH, DS, DD and DM(dear mom)!!!!!! What types of snacks, beverages, etc. are available in Neptune? Trying to search for all of the suite perks...can't wait to go...it will be our first suite!!

Opps...forgot to ask if there is a charge for the items in the suite's frig or is it complimentary?

Thank you so much for your answers, I can't wait to hear more. I do have some responses though. I love the idea of a hugh balcony, it sounds so nice. As to the shade, is there shade all day long in the above mentioned cabins? I know the majority of the balacony made be sun but is there still some shade? Maybe on the side balcony?.

What is the best "Suite Perk" ?

Is there something I should pre-order to make this an extra special?

This is going to be a wonderful party, just the two of us. :p

Has anyone stayed out on the balcony and seen Dolphins?

Thanks so much for helping make this special, keep posting.

DH and I have had two of the corner suites 7132 on the Zuiderdam and 5187 on the Oosterdam. On the Z we used the side verandah (shaded/covered) a lot. It was a Caribbean cruise and we put the dining table and chairs under there and had lunch out there several times or just sat there if we wanted out of the sun for a while. In St. Thomas, it rained and we moved the chaise lounges under there ALSO (plenty of room) and had our naps out there. Delightful! Didn't see any dolphins but saw a beautiful rainbow behind the ship and we could see both ends of the rainbow.

On the O we didn't use the side verandah at all, it was very windy (Mexican Riviera) but still enjoyed the big verandah. On our upcoming caribbean cruise (Jan 13) we have booked two corner suites. Gotta love 'em.
