Sueseb Posted October 18, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2006 My DH is retiring on Halloween (riding out on his broom stick!) His co-workers know that we are going on a cruise (Volendam 12/13) and as a gift would like to get him some kind of a gift card for bar tab etc. So, is it possible to buy some kind of a card for on board credit from HAL? I didn't know the answer and directed them to the web site but I don't think flowers and champagne are what they had in mind. Thanks. Sue
Frick_&_Frack Posted October 18, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 18, 2006 Sue - I don't know if HAL does the "bar cards" that other cruise lines have (I haven't seen it from them). I do know you can order just about anything to have it delivered to the stateroom (any spirits, wines, etc.). They may be able to contact HAL directly to see if they could have a credit applied to your onboard account and give a card (to you to hold) to give to your DH onboard. Happy Cruising. jtl513 Posted October 18, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 18, 2006 There's Pinnacle dinners at $30 pp, casino chips in $10 denominations, wine packages, expensive cigars, a combo wine and $50 casino credit package ... Look at the gift list under Gracious Service on the HAL site, http://www.hollandamerica.com/pdfs/onboard/Gift_Order_Polar.pdf :)
happy cruzer Posted October 18, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 18, 2006 I resigned from my last job working in a large company on Halloween. I was wearing a Princess costume (We all were encouraged to dress for the holiday) which was very ironic because the Main Problem that I worked for always treated me like I thought I was a Princess ( duhh, how can a woman work for more than 20 years in engineering companies and have an attitude?? - sense of humor yes, attitude no - any way different story) so I sure hope your DH can have some fun on his last day. Getting to go out as a Princess (finally) was a highlight for me. Of course I was leaving to run my own little business so it was not a complete escape. Congratulations to DH. I would recommend that they just call ships services and by an OBC for him. If they won't sell them a generic OBC, they can get the Pinnacle Grill and you can exchange it for a generic OBC once onboard. That's what I was told when I prepaid for the Pinnacle. Give us an update on the Escape! Cheers!
Sueseb Posted October 18, 2006 Author #5 Share Posted October 18, 2006 Loved your story! At 70 this is, I hope, his final retirement. Were you able to exchange the Pinnacle for an OBC? He likes to play bingo but not spend a lot of time in the casino. I, on the other hand, love the slots - I know -- you always lose. Does not like wine or champagne but sticks to Tanguery. Would just like to know if there is some way he could use it for what ever he wanted.
kathyemma Posted October 18, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 18, 2006 Have them give him an Amex gift card which he can use to pay part of the bill. Congrats to him!
happy cruzer Posted October 19, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2006 I prepaid the Pinnacle Grill for my cruise in Nov. at the time they could not guarantee a night or time for my reservation. But said that if the Pinnacle was not available when I wanted the prepay could be converted to OBC. I said what if I just decide I like the dining room just fine. They said the prepay would convert. And I know that if you get a bottle of wine as a gift that can be converted, I have seen that done many times. I think as long as the gift isn't perishable it can be converted. So you will be safe with most of what they get. DH sounds like he has earned his fun in the sun! Enjoy!
Sueseb Posted October 19, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted October 19, 2006 Thanks so much for the suggestions. I think I will just let them contact HAL and make their own decisions. Sue
kikiwik Posted October 20, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 20, 2006 I know on our recent cruise my boyfriend put a onboard credit on our account and when we arrived in our stateroom it said so and so has given you an on board credit of blank $ so they could always call and do that and then when you arrive on board he would have a little card that says so and so has given you an on board credit of however much they put on. Sueseb Posted October 20, 2006 Author #10 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Kiki -- I think that was the answer I was looking for. Thanks.
Sunshine91 Posted October 20, 2006 #11 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Sue - The answer is YES! The on-line gift order form is the place to "pre-fund" your shipboard account (link below). Look at the column on the left. You can just print this form & give it to the husband's co-workers to fill-out & fax to ship services. They'll need your booking number but then they can give whatever $$ they want to for his retirement gift. http://hollandamerica.com/pdfs/onboard/Gift_Order_Polar.pdf They could either present him with a copy of this order form at the retirement party or a creative type could make a presentation gift certificate on the computer to let him know the credit will be waiting for him when you sail. Nice idea for retirement - buy a round of drinks. :)
