I know once you pay the final payment and the price of the cruise drops that you are screwed. I have one question? Why would anyone book 16 months in advance and then find out that there cabin was now more than a $1,000 less. I think that cruise lines should have some loyality to past passengers who have more than 10 cruise with them and give those passages a break when hey drop the price. I can understand a few hundred dollars but over $1,000 I think is a bit much. I quess I will do what most people who are retired do and that is wait until the last moment then book a cruise with any line as long as the price is good. No more loyality to one cruise line for me.

Not really sure what you are trying to say...

But your statement is totally false...In most cases,if the price of your cruise drops you can either upgrade if available,or be credited the difference...Happens all the time,as hundreds of CCers will gladly testify to..

Yes,there are occasions that you are not eligible for money back.

Such as sales that are for "new bookings only" and most Happy Hour sailings..

RCI offers many opps for discounts such as for booking onboard,and C&A coupons as well..

I did but didn't have a camera. They had some nice sand castles. They have that contest every year - fun stuff. I used to live in Boston and miss it. How are things up there?

Completely wrong info. Doesn't matter whether the price drops before or after final payment, you can still get the difference back. Maybe you should check your facts before talking out of your a$$.

(not the responses you were hoping for, are they?)

I think the seasoned cruise veterans can attest to the fact that booking ahead usually does result either in a better price or a better selection of cabins when compared to booking at the last minute. And as the previous posters stated, when a price drop does happen, the cruiselines will typically refund to you the amount of the price drop except under certain circumstances (i.e., new bookings only, etc.). If you are using a travel agent, hopefully he or she will watch for price drops for you, but if you have booked it yourself, it will fall back onto you to watch for the price drops. The cruiseline isn't going to call you to let you know the price has gone down.

In addition, I would speculate that a $1000 price drop isn't seen very often with ships sailing at near or at capacity anymore.

You are more than welcome to wait until the last minute to book your cruises, but I suspect you'll be even more frustrated because the price will likely be higher or you'll be stuck in the worst cabin on the ship, if the cabins aren't completely sold out. :)

We got a drop and our friends got two drops on our upcoming cruise. The prices have since gone up to more than we originally booked for :D . We're now $250/pp less than the current price and $150/pp less than we originally booked for.

Cruise-nut. I grew up in VA. Beach, My mom still lives there. Now up here outside of Boston. Small world:D

The only negative about booking 16 months in advance is having to put a deposit down. Otherwise it is all positive:

You can cancel with a full refund of your deposit at any time for any reason before full payment is due;

You have a much better choice of cabins/suites to choose from;

If you have 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th passengers (as we do) and you are booking the Royal Family Suite (or any cabin), the cost for the extra passengers is usually WAY lower that far in advance;

The overall cost is usually lower and they honor all price drops, all you have to do is check back often and call when the price drops, we have done this many times. And one of the best savings of all;

You can book airline tickets as soon as they become available (usually a year out) and have a better chance of getting to use your frequent flyer miles, which are becoming increasingly hard to use. We booked our upcoming March cruise way in advance and were able to snag four frequent flyer seats, saving @ $1,200.00, sweet!

The OP may be referring to happy hour specials or last minute guarantee specials in which a refund would not be an option. We are also considering booking strictly within the last month in the future as we too have been burned a couple of times recently booking 6+ months in advance, only to have our same stateroom category blown out during a happy hour special a month before sailing.

Well, guess some can do that but others of us have to request time off work, plan for kennels etc. The latest I've booked is 71 days out and then cabins in the category I wanted were limited so I'll take my chances and book earlier and get what I want.
