Schplinky Posted October 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 19, 2006 I'm going to be in Las Vegas next weekend and am looking for a particular wine we enjoyed on a Royal Caribbean cruise recently and is not carried by the liquor control board here, which has a full monopoly so there is no point in shopping around here. The wine was not expensive (it was $28 on the ship so I would guess it to be a $9-12 bottle in a store) so I don't think I need a store with an upscale selection so much as one with a wide selection. Can any of you who know Las Vegas recommend a place that might be a good bet? The wine is a riesling by Chateau Ste. Michelle in Washington State and is a Johannisberg Riesling. We will have a car and this is a bit of a pet project since my partner really loved it and it will be a gift for him so I dont mind driving a little. hammybee Posted October 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 19, 2006 If you go to http://www.ste-michelle.com and search for Riesling in Nevada, you will find that many Albertsons carry it. Hope this helps the cause.

Hope this helps the cause. That does help but I don't know what an Albertson's is. Is that a grocery store or a liquor store? I'm a little leary of grocery stores (although we'll look) because this is not the "main" riesling the company carries so I'm concerned that I might need a store with a really broad selection. I could be off, though and I have to admit I am just guessing. Thanks again for your help. It never occurred to me to check with the vineyard to see who sells their products. The web site shows several Albertsons ( a grocer) as well as a few 7-11s ( who knew?) and a lobster house in LV. Maybe you can take a copy of the list and call ahead of time, once you are in Vegas. Or, you might want to call or email the vineyard, before leaving home. Maybe they might be willing to ship it to your hotel, subject to regulations, under the circumstances. I looked at the list and it includes the grocery stores you mentioned and a number of discount liquor chains (as well as Costco). It is foreign to me to have such a selection of venues in which to buy wine! We only want to buy a couple of bottles so I think I'll try taking a list as you suggest, as opposed to having some shipped. I appreciate this. jhannah Posted October 19, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2006 One of the largest retailers here is Lee's Discount Liquors. They have stores on both East Flamingo and West Flamingo, easily accessible from The Strip. If anyone has it, I'm sure they will. Also, if the Albertson's store is a big one then they will have a very large selection of wines and spirits. Enjoy your visit in our valley. Bring lots of money, and leave most of it here when you leave!! :D
Hoyaheel Posted October 19, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 19, 2006 Ah, Lee's Discount liquor store. I love that store! I live in a state-regulated ABC state so I love to shop in Vegas!!
hammybee Posted October 19, 2006 #9 Share Posted October 19, 2006 Albertsons owns Jewel ( formerly The Jewel Tea Company) in the Chicagoland area. The wine department is huge and is considered one of the better places for value and variety. And on your way out, you can pick up some graham crackers too :)

swscruiser Posted October 20, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 20, 2006 Hi I sell this wine in the state of Illinois. To get the correct Chateau Ste-Michelle Reisling it should retail for around $9.99, and I believe it is from either the Columbia or Wilmette Valley. The label just recently changed so, if you remember the label it may not be exactly as you remember it. Also, if the label says Chateau Ste-Michelle and Horse Heaven or Indian Wells District, they are not the ones you want Hope this helps, enjoy Keith
