Booking a Future Cruise while onboard

Recommended Posts

You do get onboard credits when you book a cruise while on a cruise. The difference between RCI and Princess - RCI you have to have a definite cruise to book and pay the full downpayment..however, with Princess you can do an open booking $100/per person down which not only gives you onboard credits when you choose a cruise, the $100/pp is you depost and you have 4 years to decide on a cruise. Princess by far has the better deal and my husband and I always book a cruise from a cruise (those onboard credits come in handy).

If you book a future cruise with Royal Caribbean you do have to book a specific cruise. You can however change the booking to a different cruise later on. As long as the original booking number is maintained the on board credit will be carried over to the newly selected cruise.

:) We just got back from our third cruise on Rhapsody (14 total cruises). I booked a cruise in Feb 07 before we left and then checked on the price once I got on the ship. I was able to save almost 300 dollars by booking it off the ship. (we use a travel agent through AAA motor club) We have found that our pricing tends to be better if we watch for a deal and then call the agent to book it for us. She can usually do better than RCI.

Onboard credits for booking onboard are $50.00 3-5 day cruise, $100.00 6-8 day cruise and $200.00 for 9 or more.

Is the OBC per cabin or per person? I always thought it was per cabin, but I spoke with a C&A customer service person last night (Rae), and she told me that it is per person for the first two people. I am looking at a nine-night cruise (Grandeur to New England), and she said we would get $100 each OBC for booking on board, so a total of $200. As I see your post, it must be $200 per cabin. It comes out the same. I am just curious I guess.

The onboard credit is per cabin, not per person. While $100 per person would be the same as $200 per cabin for a 9 night cruise, it would not be the same if there was a 3rd or 4th person in the cabin. By stating that the credit is per cabin they limit the amount of the credit if there happen to be more than 2 people in the cabin.

Jerry, that is exactly my situation. We have four people in our cabin, so I asked her if all four got the OBC since it was per person, and she said only the first two in the cabin, so $200. It would make more sense if she'd just say $200 per cabin, but we are talking about RCI's customer service here!

Seems crazy they wouldn't want to guarantee the lowest price if you book another cruise right there from them - IN PERSON!

Cost savings on the transaction alone make the whole thing cheaper, which they can pass along right on the spot!

Basically, they invite you to go shop around for prices and risk losing you to another line if you find a cruise (and price!) you like better elsewhere. Doesn't do much to boost customer loyalty numbers.....

With RCI, everyone booking agency has the same price, so it IS the best price at that time. It isn't like it used to be where you could shop around for a better price.

If you do find a TA that will give you some incentive, such as free insurance, excursions, etc., you can always transfer the booking to them, being sure, of course, to keep the same booking number; your OBC will follow you.
