Difference in coupon books and question

Recommended Posts

Is there a difference in coupons in the coupon book provided to C&A members according to level? For instance, I'm still Gold, but I see that there are people selling coupon books for Platinum and Diamond on ebay. Are there any different coupons in these books vs. the Gold books? And if so, is it possible to purchase these books and use them even though you might not be to that level yet? Do they really check? Thanks!

There are better or more discounts in the platinum books. Sometimes they check and sometimes they don't when you redeem them. There are different version numbers and dates in the lower right corner of each coupon. These are updated periodically by RCI.

I wouldn't risk paying for an old coupon book on ebay. I have had them fill in my coupon with my name and cabin number in the photo shop on board. I have used some of my old coupons on board. But they were still the proper version and for a cruise of the correct number of nights. There are books for 3,4 and 5 nights. And books for 7 nights. Maybe there are other books for the really long cruises. I don't know since I've never been on one longer than 7 nights.

Yes, there are difference. I was on the Freedom last week as a platinum member. In addition to the usual gold member coupons, I also get a coupon for buy 1 get 1 free photo, a coupon for 15 minutes of internet access, a coupon for a bear, glass of wine or soda. To me, the most valuable is the photo coupon because you save $19.95 if you buy two 8x10 pictures.

I only used these three out of the whole book and they never check.

The Diamond coupons are a little better than the platinum coupons but not by much. Royal really needs to offer better coupons in these books. Since we don't gamble the book is practically worthless to us.

You can go redeem your $2 for $10 in play coupon for 8 quarters at the cashier. There is no obligation to play. In the platinum booklet this means you get $4 for free. I bet you get 3 of those coupons in the diamond booklet since there is only 1 in the gold booklet. I don't know this for sure though since I've never seen a diamond booklet - yet. Next time!

A couple of cruises ago (when we were still platinum) we were given a couple of Diamond books by a friend of ours on board. During the cruise we used the platinum coupons as well as the Diamond ones and nobody said a word.

When do you get these books. We finished our first cruise this past January and are scheduled for 1/08 on Serenade. Do you get them before the cruise or when you board?

The stateroom attendant gives them to us the first day.

I've had it happen both ways - on the same ship. I've used coupons from my previous cruises (and from other cruisers) for certain activities, but then on the same ship trying to use a different coupon they actually checked to see if you were the same level as the coupon said and wrote down your Seapass number.

I would not pay any money to get one of these books. If someone gave it to you, fine, try to use it, you probably will be able to. But it's not worth paying money for.

The Diamond coupons are better I think. The photo coupon is for any photo/any size for free (not bogo), 20 mins internet not 15 and a free cocktail in a souvenier class or a coke or bottle of water. The spa discount is 20% and the RCCL logo discount was 10% (I think, I can't remember that one for sure...). There were 3 $12 for $10 coupons for the slots, so basically $6 that you could just collect if you wanted; and 3 $5 match play coupons. Also had a free Ben & Jerry Peace pop and a free latte/capp/etc from Lattitudes or Cafe Promenade. There was something for the art auction and the free wine tasting too, but I think these are in all the level books. No one asked for our setsail pass, but on other cruises I have had that happen. We gave one of the free photo coupons to the family sitting next to us at dinner, who were Gold and they were able to redeem it without any problem.

I am only gold but each cruise I have been given books by friends (diamond and platinum) and no one has said a word, even at the pursers when they credited my account for the Internet use.
