Water & Ice Cubes in Mexico

We haven't followed those rules since our first 2 trips 15 years ago. The touristy places all have purified water. Even in little villages, frequently the ice cubes are brought in from other places (you'll see holes through the middle of the ice cubes) with purified water. As to drinking bottled water, if I'm outside of the city, yes I only drink bottled water (making sure the cap is actually sealed). Bars in town will often try to sell you bottled water--they'll even tell you the water is bad. But what do you think they use in their drinks? That said, if you're on a cruise you won't be drinking that much water off the ship, so you might as well buy bottled water and be secure in your own mind, if nothing else. My husband and I usually buy the largest sized bottled water (1 for each of us) each day--not because of the purity, but because that way we make sure we drink our quota of water. We find that the more water we drink, the better we feel with all that sun, cervaza and spicy foods.
