It was great as usual !!!!

We spent Saturday night in a Quality Inn (definitely not) located on Tulane Road. Definitely wouldn't recommend, but we were limited due to Essence Festival being that weekend. Dropped luggage off at Port around 11 am, left and headed to Harrah's to park. I do thank you great folks who gave the inside scoop for parking here !!! I gambled for a minimum of 30 minutes, got our parking ticket stamped at the Awards desk counter and that was it. When my sister picked up the car they did ask about the card and she told them I had it and I was still at the Port but they didn't give her a problem and the ENTIRE week was free of charge !!! I didn't mention to the clerk at the Awards how LONG the car would be there.

Returned to the Port around 3:00, no lines whatsoever !! Had to rush up to Lido to get lunch though because we heard they were to stop serving at 4:00. didn't even stop by room first.

Ports of Call:

Montego Bay - Once again I thank you great informants here on board !!!

We caught a taxi, the three of us for $5 total, it is a set fee, didn't matter how many. The assistant makes sure you get in the proper taxi with red plates. We went to Sunset Beach Resort, at the gate, they escort you to the front desk, they keep your Sign and Sail card until you depart, and the price is $20 per person, my nephew was charged $10 (age 11). Anyhow, this was the best deal on any tour !!! As stated before, they have a grill and buffet open, all you can eat at either. The buffet closed maybe around 3 or so for dinner set up but the grill area stayed opened. It really is all inclusive !!! They have 3 swimming pools, beach, paddle boats, canoes, snorkeling, life jackets, kid hardback floats, chairs, umbrellas and unlimited sodas, non-alcoholic and ALCOHOLIC drinks. YES, I said unlimited alcholic beverages !!! They also have a sandbar where you are in a 4 ft pool and go up to the counter and order drinks. They also have a small casino, maybe 30 to 40 machines in there, different denominations. They have a very comfty lounge/lobby area. Shopping is available at the Port area.

Grand Cayman - We did the Stingray/Snorkel Tour. We purchased this at the dock for $35, (they also charged $35 for child fee) they had folks walking around with signs advertising for the Stingray and the Turtle Farm Sightseeing Tour for $15. They had us way out there in the water for the Snorkeling there were some Stingrays down under the water. They did one stop for snorkeling first and then the Stingray stop. Where they docked the water was waist deep, was quite a bit of other boats around the deepness of the water depends on your tours location. There were plenty of Stingrays in the area, so no one was fighting to see them. The guide was out there taking pictures with folks posing with the Stingrays and they were selling the pictures on a computer disk for $15, the pictures were good. As for the tender, we got off the ship around 9:30, there was no line so we didn't have to get a ticket, they just directed us on off the ship and right onto a tender, which was maybe 15 minutes. Coming back wasn't a problem either, we got back close to 2:00 and did a little shopping, didn't want to be on the last tender at 3:00.

Cozumel - Ended up taking the ships tour after we got off the ship. We took the city tour and shopping $49, wouldn't recommend. Definitely wasn't worth it. You didn't see no city. My advice, take a taxi to downtown and just go shopping. It's huge down there !!! We did go to Sanchos Backyard and had some Seafood Quesadias (sp??) and Strawberry Daiguris (sp??) The tour guide gave us a coupon to take there for a free sampler platter, had about four items on it, it wasn't bad but definitely didn't enlight the $49 fee.

Lots of storage room in cabin, lots of step climbing, formal night is on Monday, Semi-Formal was Thursday, we had at least two deck parties. Didn't have the urge to stand in line for the chocolate buffet on Saturday afternoon, the line never let up, ate lunch and gave up on the dessert line.

Also found out they don't do the free cake for celebrations like they used to, now you have to purchase them at the desk when you first come in the dining room.

Any questions, fire away and I'll help where I can.

Thanks for the great review! Did you happen to try the alternative restaurant? If so, how was it? I'm looking forward to sailing upon sister ship Carnival Liberty next year, so, until then, I have to settle for reviews of the Conquest!

Tina, sorry we didn't try it out, I did make it up to the Sur Mer, after about 3 attempts, they close at 2:30 after lunch. It's located upstairs on the Lido, you have to go on a certain side because the other side is The Pointe.

I noticed you mentioned you were with your 11 year old nephew. We will

be traveling with our 9 year old son and daughter on 8/1 on Conquest. How

did your nephew enjoy the cruise? Any info appreciated.

Thanks.

To ATLJ: He turned 11 on that Tuesday, he became a changed kid . . . .

The first time two years ago he went to the Camp maybe twice. This time we couldn't keep him away! That Monday was the last time he ate dinner with us !!!. By Friday, he begged to stay on the ship we went to Cozumel and got his wish. When it was time to get off the ship he sat up in the window seal and closed the curtains !!! Does this answer your question? His Mom rented an Gamboy SP for the week and they let you change the game daily, he got to go the the All Night slumber party, it started at 10pm and let out at 8 am, he managed to stay up and by 10 the next morning was out like a light until around 7 the next evening, but happy all the same. He truly enjoyed himself on this one !!!

Great review! Thanks for sharing your memories!! Sunset Beach sounds wonderful!! How was it swimming with the stingrays? This is something I've always wanted to do, but my best friend who's going with me is too scared to get in the water. I heard they are really gentle. What can I do to convince her to get off the boat, and join the fun??

I would like to know a little bit more about parking at Harrah's. Is 30 minutes all you have to gamble to get to park there? I have been looking for a place to park and save the high price of port parking. That would be a great option..

Which pier do you dock at in Cozumel? How was the weather on the cruise and in the ports? Was it really really hot and was it humid? Our last cruise was a Feb. cruise and I was wondering what to expect as far as the weather.

CMEZ - I didn't get in I took the camcorder taping. There were a few that were hesitant but they soon got over it, most of the time they're not actually on your. They pretty much swim around minding their own business and brush on you every now and then. There was one lady that wouldn't get it but the guide brought a stingray to the back of the boat and let her rub the top of it. My TA said she had friend who waited until it was time to go to get up the nerve and loved it so if she's not afraid of water she'll probably give in after she sees all those folks out there enjoying it. My sister had one playing across her back, one of the guys was holding it and it flapped on her back.

Bab15316 - The parking lot is across the street from Harrah's, can't remember which street because Harrahs covers a four by four intersection. I want to say its on the side with the Riverwalk. Anyhow you park, get a Harrah's casino card for the machine, play a minimum of 30 minutes (make sure its registering in the machine) when done, go to the Awards counter and give them to the parking ticket to stamp. Keep up with that ticket. My sister said when they put in the ticket it rang up like $175 without the ticket.

Ashchick - Don't know which pier we were at but you walk inside a building where there was shopping, food, tours and walk thru the other side to get a taxi. Weather was great the whole time, warm but not humid, lots of sun, we had a slow mist in Cozumel but didn't cause any problems, used an umbrella maybe 10 minutes.

Thanks for the great review of Conquest. I'm not clear why the resort in Montego Bay holds your Sail and Sign card while you are there. Did they explain why?

No, didn't ask, but my guess is its their guarantee that you are there temporarily and not trying to get over on the "special" rate when you're actually going to be there longer than a day. I forgot to mention that they take the card at the hotel desk and by the time you're ready to leave you pick it up at the gate where you first arrived, the taxi driver drove us back to the gate to pick them up.

We will be sailing on 8/29, and Sunset Beach in Jamaica sounds like exactly what we are looking for. Is this something that you have to pre-book, or are there taxi's waiting when you get off the ship? This is our first cruise, and we are not sure what to expect.

Did you catch the taxi inside the fenced area for Sunset Beach? I know the last 3 times we went (to Doc's) we got on the bus and it was like $3.00 each/each way. It would be nice to pay a flat rate as we will need 2 taxis for the 6 of us.

When you get to the Port walk all the way through the building to the other side and there are officials helping folks catch a taxi, going it was a flat rate $5 for 3 of us, coming back the taxi was inside the gate at Sunset Beach and he charged us $2 a person which was a dollar more than what we paid coming. Also be aware to catch the taxis with RED License Plates. There are locals hanging around to give rides too. When you arrive they stop and let you out, outside the gate and the gentlement escorts you up to the hotel desk. This is not something advertised with Carnival. Can you imagine if the whole ship knew they could go there for $20 eat, drink, snorkel, swim, paddleboat, chill out . . . there would be no other tours listed. So its just for us great sharing cruise critics folks !!! My sister kept saying, we should have left the ship sooner !!! My nephew (11) had a field day going from pool to beach and found a friend to ride the paddleboat with him and his Mom. If you've never had jerk chicken, look out, definitely spicey, go for it ! :D
