When do I tell my daughters that we have #1388!

Ok, here is the deal. I am cruising with my two daughters (20 & 17) on Voyager on 12/16/06. I have always wanted to do a mother daughters trip and now is the time. My husband doesn't care to go. Can you believe that!!

Anyway, about 5 months out I was scrolling the RCCL site and this cabin, that I have heard wonderful things about, was available! I snagged it so fast that I am sure heads were spinning!

Now, my daughters think we are in an inside cabin. Actually, we started with an inside and I talked my husband into letting me atleast get a window. Since he isn't going of course he wanted us to go the cheapest route. I was just happy to be going but when you can get this cabin, that you have heard so much about, then you HAVE to get it. You would all agree I'm sure! So they think we have a window.

I have had some things going on with relatives and their health so I haven't let myself get too excited. But things are looking better and so I am allowing myself to start getting excited about this trip with my girls! I mean would God allow me to get my hands on cabin #1388 and not be able to go?! I sure hope not!!

I'm sorry I am rambling. Excitement will do that to you!

When do I tell my girls that we have this cabin? Do I wait and play dumb and they find out when we get on. I would think they would figure it out when we are checking in. I don't remember do they show a diagram of where your room is at that time?

If you have any ideas as to how to keep my surprise going I would love to hear from you. I have told a few people about the cabin but mostly people I work with who won't be seeing my daughters. Of course, my husband knows but he is sworn to secrecy. I figured I had to tell him since he is helping to pay for the trip!

Sorry this post is so long but if you have any suggestions or any surprises that I could do for my girls I would love to hear them.

Thank you!

I wouldn't tell them at all. I would wait till you got on the ship and went to your cabin. What a surprise!!!

I am so envious of your mother-daughter trip. Life is made up of making memories, and you are making one that will be on the top of the memory list.

As I see it, the only problem you are going to have is keeping the secret!

Have a fabulous cruise!

Maybe I'm missing something, is there something special about room 1388

On the Voyager class ships, 1388 and 1688 are huge corner aft D1 cabins.

They are the size of a junior suite, but at a D1 price.

Don't tell anyone though;) , pretty soon so many people will want these cabins that I'll never be able to get one!

I've surprised myself that I haven't told them about it! I am really going to try hard not to tell them either. I mentioned to my youngest a few months ago that eventually I would have one of those aft cabins. She said that by the time we get one of those she would be married with her own family. I didn't bat an eye! I just said yeah your probably right. It'll just be your dad and I to enjoy it I guess.

I did tell them that I would have a few surprises lined up for this trip but I know they won't suspect this!

Thanks for all your help and suggestions!

this must be for you -- a Mom/DD's trip and at Christmas, too. This should make the packing and planing much more exciting for you, just knowing how surprised and excited they will be when they see what you snagged. You're a great Mom for doing this (and so is Dad;) ) and what wonderful memories you will have for a lifetime.

My vote - no way, don't tell them. Have a great trip!!!!

I say wait. We were upgraded last month on HAL Zaandam - to a Superior Suite (about a 600 sq. ft. suite with concierge service). I didn't tell my husband, it was tough to keep it a secret, but well worth it when he found out. However, he did find out we had a suite at check in because we got to bypass the long lines. He was even more suprised when he actually saw it. And the fact we could get free latte's all day long added to the enjoyment ;)

Keeping it a secret will be more than worth it.!

A couple of years back, my wife and I and our two daughters, then 18 and 20, did a cruisetour to Alaska on the Celebrity Summit...

When we originally booked it, we booked a really nice "corner" oversized window cabin for my wife and I and the inside cabin across the hall for the kids...We actually booked it while on the Millennium the Summer before, so my wife and I checked out the cabiin just before disembarking...

But, at some point during the intervening year, I switched the cabins to a pair of "Sky Suites" without EVER telling the wife and kids...

We did the land portion first, flying into Fairbanks...So, for the first week of the trip, nothing seemed particularly unusual...

Luckily, my wife couldn't remember the original cabin numbers anyway, so the luggage tags and docs with the two SUITE numbers on them meant little to her...and she wasn't paying that much attention anyway...neither were the kids...

When we finally got to the ship, my wife was expecting to walk int a slightly oversized but otherwise ordinary "window" cabin...The kids were expecting a dinky inside one...

I still said nothing...

On Celebrity, a crew member ushers you to your cabin, so, when we boarded, a crew member led us down the hall way to our Suites...He opens the door for my wife and I...and then opens the next door for the kids...

It took my wife several seconds to comprehend where she was..."Wait, this is the WRONG CABIN!" she says...

Meanwhile, I'm hearing high pitched shrieking from next door...The Butler has gone in to introduce himself to the girls...and they are excited...They'd been on lots of cruises, had to share quads with us when they were young, then we started getting them their own inside cabins when they got to be teens...and they were used to THAT drill...but this was something new...they were in a spacious suite with their own balcony and a butler!!!

So, in the meantime, I'm explaining to my wife that I've upgraded us...but she still thinks the kids are in an "inside" somewhere close by...

Then they come running in..."We thought you said we had an inside cabin!!" They really felt like a couple of little princesses on that cruise...

It was well worth the surprise...

Of course, now, if they weren't spoiled enough already...

And, of course, we probably won't be taking them on too many more cruises now that they're pretty much grown...

We were going to take both of them with us on the Monarch in January, but the younger one (21) needs to be back in school up in Davis on those dates...but we're still taking the 22 year-old...and we got her her very own cabin...but it's one of those 119 sf inside cabins on Deck 2! No butler...

Good luck. I have an aft corner balcony on the Rhapsody booked for my mother/daughter cruise coming up in May, and was going to surprise my daughter. But, I couldn't stand it and had to show her everyone's pics of the big balcony! I was way too excited myself!

Hope you all have a wonderful cruise. These mother/daughter times are very special.

Has anyone had items sent to the ship to surprise someone? (flowers/gift baskets) or did you use the services from RCCL? I was thinking about maybe doing something like this but haven't decided for sure.

Thanks!
