hawt1 Posted October 23, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 23, 2006 Is it possible for you to remove offensive posts from a thread and any posts that quote said offensive posts? In the last day or two, there have been threads closed due to "posts that violated community rules". Closing a thread only buries it where it can never come back to the front page and makes posters question your motives. Removing offensive posts would keep the original thread open and in line with community guidelines and would reduce the number of repeat threads on subjects. Just a friendly suggestion. One merely need look at the 'adverse impacts of cruising' thread to see that, yes, if they so choose they can delete only those posts that violate community guidelines - and many that do not - leaving only those which in their infinite wisdom they decide to leave. 94-Cobra Posted October 23, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 23, 2006 Many other web forums have some sort of "open" forums, where controversial topics can be discussed. In this way, anyone who may be offended knows to stay out, and these topics can be discussed freely.
rsscaptain Posted October 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 24, 2006 If a thread has to be stopped at some point I can get that, but I wonder why it can't still be read? But then again I don't see all that it written so I guess they are just trying to keep things as friendly as possible.
BillfromWV Posted October 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Don't punish the whole community by pulling an entire thread, just remove any offending or rule violating post. Maybe the offending person should be banned. We should have the ability to freely communicate here, isn't that the point of the boards, the exchange of information, ideas, and opinions. kavanaugh77 Posted October 24, 2006 #7 Share Posted October 24, 2006 what happened to freedom of speech?? who decides what post are offensive and to whom? I found many of the post VERY OFFESIVE to myself and it was mine that was removed because I voiced for the otherside but stating:Originally Posted by kavanaugh77 I Have siled on 13 cruises I have been on many cruises with large groups. from nuns to 911 call operatorws to EMT's etc... they always have there meeting in rooms that are closed off to the rest of the ship no big deal. I also Love how so many of the threads say how "I dont care if they are gay or str8".. this is like saying i am not prejudice by best friend is ______. (fill in the blank... black gay fat short blonde etc). while I agree sex in public is wrong I feel I have seen many str8 cruisers just about "doing" it on the deck on at dinner but nothing is ever said about them.. HUMMMM I am turned off just as much by a group of religous zealots making everything stop to say a prayer when it may offend many of the passengers but this again doesnt make it into the threads. HMMMMM... once again on the carnival page its the "swingers" group it seams unless the passenger fits into the "NORMAL" profile no one else is able to enjoy themselves either. I agree kids SHOLD NOT be forced to expierence any of these items from the sex to forced anything. we have to remember this is still a business for RCCL and all other ships and if they turn down groups they would be either out of business or be charging three times the amount they do now. the groups help keep our prices sdown for everyone. lets all be a little more caring and loving thanks for listening to my rant:eek: so why should mine be removed when far worse was allowed to remain
lori450 Posted October 24, 2006 #8 Share Posted October 24, 2006 I have to say that some of the threads were not pulled due to poor behavior or violating rules. I was following a thread earlier today that did not have a single rude comment on it. Unfortunately, it was pulled as all threads on this subject have been pulled. Host Mike Posted October 24, 2006 #12 Share Posted October 24, 2006 I'll go ahead and answer. It's because some people just won't quit. A more recent thread (and I am sure one that brought this up) had an entire page of deleted posts. I am not kidding - an entire page. Then as soon as one Host gets that cleaned up - there is another page of flames, name calling, and off topic comments starting all over again. Then (yes there is more) - our mail boxes literally get filled with alerts and complaints about those posts. If we can lock a thread - it does leave the information available to see. Then again, some become so filled with offending posts - when we start deleting all we have left is Swiss cheese that makes no sense - so it is better to just pull it and put it out of it's misery. So - now you have our take on it. And - I have no problem leaving this up until it catches on fire.

lori450 Posted October 24, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Thanks , Mike. I appreciate the explanation. Perhaps the thread I saw had already been edited and that's why it appeared to be clean. I appreciate you taking the time to educate us. Butters! I've seen you lurking around the boards. Our cruise got me so fired up I booked the same one again next year (Billy will be tall enough for the flowrider!). I'm doing a "quickie" on the Enchantment sans Billy next month. All my best! lori450 Posted October 24, 2006 #18 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Western 9/30/07. Picked the date because Billy doesn't have school a few days that week. Eastern/Western we've done them each a few times. I thought about the Liberty, but didn't like the itinerary.

FitzLA Posted October 24, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Western 9/30/07. Picked the date because Billy doesn't have school a few days that week. Eastern/Western we've done them each a few times. I thought about the Liberty, but didn't like the itinerary. I am jealous. We are doing Hawaii next year. Jason is not as much of a cruiser as me, so we have to alternate. So doing the short 3 days is my way of getting a cruise in every year. You are gonna have so much fun. Maybe 2008 we can cruise together again...and actually have more time to talk. lol. I also want to cruise in '09 and try Genesis...maybe.
lori450 Posted October 24, 2006 #21 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Hawaii sounds great! Never been...maybe someday. Genesis??? I'm not so sure I want to cruise with all the people from the state of Florida, lol. I hear it's going to be a monster. OK, Butters, how big is too big?? lv2bcruzin Posted October 24, 2006 #25 Share Posted October 24, 2006 Another good question would be why a thread about why cruising is so much fun is moved from here to the "Never seen again Lounge", otherwise known as the "Floataway Lounge", while a thread about the weather in North Dokota is left here on the RCI board. So much thread moving is rediculous. I know alot of people on the RCI board only post here and it is used as their main spot for info. Unless it is completely obscene I don't think they should ever move, close or remove posts. I run two boards and I don't think we've moved more than a handful of posts in 2 years. Really we only move things if we think it would do the thread justice as in bring more views.
