NancyIL Posted October 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 24, 2006 My first post on the Alaska board was May 7, 2005 for a 2007 cruise! However, I didn't start getting serious about Alaska until August 2005. It's fun to go back and see how your thinking/plans have changed with the passage of time. I know my plans have changed quite a bit in the past 14 months - to the point that my husband once said, "You haven't mentioned Alaska for a few days...are we still on the same ship?" :D The search feature will show you only 250 posts at a time, so you have to play around with dates and ascending/descending order of posts, etc. - but it's worth it to see how your plans have developed over time. sea_u_onboard Posted October 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2006 I know what you mean. I was actually helping friends plan their Alaska excursions when I first visited this section of the board. They backed out - but it helped me get a jump start on my plans. According to my posts, originally I was looking at August (don't remember that). Looked at fishing in Sitka - since have changed to Ketchikan. Was only going to stay in Anchorage - changed to sidetrip to Seward. Boy a lot has changed (for the better) since I started planning this trip - some of it is just a blurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Only 253 days left - I'm sure SOMETHING will change again before then :) Thanks to everyone for their help.
fti Posted October 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 24, 2006 As sea_u_onboard said, your plans will probably still change between now and when you leave. I thought mine were pretty fixed, but then I decided to cut Denali NP down by a day so we won't have to drive all the way from Denali to Seward in one day (so NancyIL now you do have a longer drive one day than me!), and maybe stop in Talkeetna. Then you told me about the 3pm Kenai Fjords day cruise in Toursavers. The only way we could do that is to do it on Saturday July 7th. That will be a full day - hiking part of the Harding Icefield Trail from 9am till ?? then off to the day cruise. But it is actually a much better plan - now we have all day Sunday to make our way from Seward to Anchorage so we can stop along the way - Cooper Landing? Girdwood? Portage Glacier? - yet to be decided (and probably won't be until we are there). The only timetable that day is the 8.40pm flight my friend has to catch back to the lower 48 (the next day I am off to Katmai NP). NancyIL, you started posting in May 2005 and have well over 2,000 posts. I started posting in July 2005 and have about 530 posts. Does that mean you have spent 4 times as much time on these boards as me? And I thought I was spending a lot of time here :D .

I agree - now that Toursaver info is available, and vendors are coming out with pricing for 2007 excursions (the biggest for me being Chilkoot Charters' rail/bus excursion to Carcross out of Skagway) - it's time to do some tweaking! Because of that info, my longer driving day has become even longer! NancyIL, you started posting in May 2005 and have well over 2,000 posts. I started posting in July 2005 and have about 530 posts. Well, John - I joined CC in Jan. 2004 before my first cruise, but May 2005 was my first post on the Alaska board. I spend WAY too much time on the internet, which is a result of not having a job that takes me out of the house! :D
