SuperBowl Sunday on a Cruise Ship

We are cruising The Valor on 2/4/07-2/11/07 with a ground for a friend's wedding. We just realized that 2/4/07 is SuperBowl Sunday. Has anyone been on Carnival during the SuperBowl? Are they going to have something planned? Right now we're thinking we'll just throw our stuff in our rooms, scope out the bars and find somewhere to watch the game. Can anyone recommend a good bar for watching the big game on the Valor? Is there a sports bar? Any advice/ideas are welcome.

Thanks!!

Have not been on Valor, but I have found that most of the bars right off the Casino on Carnival ships have the TV's with the games. At least Victory did in 2005 for the Viking/Green Bay regular season game.

We were on the Fantasy during the 2005 Superbowl. There was nothing special that I was aware of, but it was shown in a lot of the bars they said. We were really worried that we would be flying to Orlando the same time all the Chiefs fans were trying to fly to Jacksonville to watch the Chiefs win the Superbowl that weekend. Guess we had nothing to worry about with our beloved Chiefs...:o , probably not this year either??

Have a great trip!!!!!

I'm sorry...but what man in his right mind gets married Superbowl weekend??? LOL

Man rule # 1..If you must get married NEVER during football season.

Man rule # 2..If you get married during any sporting season it must be done on and off day or a day there are no home game...and NEVER during the playoffs!!!

This has been a man show public service announcement!! LMAO :D

I sailed on the valor in apr 06 during the nfl draft, bad move!! Great cruise ship with awesome staff, but trying to get tv stations on board was a crap shot. The bronx bar is very nice and would make for a great sports bar, but getting stations you want to see was impossible.

I'm sure they have the super bowl, but there are no guarantees. Besides, on vacation and cruising, seeing any tv was the last thing on the list.:)

Have fun,

chris

Good luck finding a seat in the sports bar!! I would recommend heading there RIGHT AFTER muster drill... just college games can fill the sports bar. Now, from what I understand, they sometimes show the super bowl in other lounges... so you never know. I would imagine on the Liberty they would show it on the big screen outside... which would be WAY COOL :D

We're looking forward to watching the superbowl on the Liberty's large poolside TV screen.

Just hoping we don't have to waste too much valuable cruise time just to claim seats in advance of game start !

Would anyone out there know what we can expect ?

Regards,

Heirloom:confused:

Ditto here... except we will be on the Conquest! Any ideas?

We'll also be on the Valor on 2/4. We have our flights booked so we should be ok, coming in day of departure. We've sailed during Super Bowl and once they were unable to get any of the tv's to broadcast the game on the ship. Many upset passengers! Not us though, we just sat out by the pool and enjoyed the stillness! (We're fair weather football fans)

Second time, our first port was Key West - we went to a bar there and watched the game - had loads of fun!

Are your friends getting married in Grand Cayman, as kind of a "secret?" A couple that posted on the Roll Call is getting married in Grand Cayman that week, wondered if they were your friends.

I was on the Valor two years ago on Superbowl Sunday and they set up a large screen by the back pool and announced it as a Superbowl party in the capers. Unfortunately, several minutes into the game the satellite on the ship went out. It came back sporadically for about 2 or 3 minutes at a time. It didn't come back for good until the last few minutes of the game and by then most people didn't care. They did keep announcing the score every 10 or 15 minutes to keep those interested informed. I will tell you there was a bunch of unhappy people that night.

Who said any man is in his "right" mind:rolleyes: ... and men don't listen is why. Especially when wedding plans are being made. He just says yes that's good, nods his head or grunts when questions are being asked and they never get any better.

My DH didn't listen when I planned our next cruise. We(I)planned a family cruise with his whole family for 11/18 because the kids are all out of school for Thanksgiving. He said it doesn't matter when trying to discuss it. Just a couple of weeks ago he realized that the 18th is Iron Bowl day (Alabama vs. Auburn) and the opening day of deer season. I bet he listens a little better when planning vacations in the future. :D

I was on the Spirit last January during the playoffs, we watched in the sports bar. They even had drink specials $11 buckets of beer. We had a good time.

Naw, he's a guy. We have short memories for those sorts of things. He'll be back to nodding his head and saying "yes, dear" before you know it!

You might very well be correct. Since I hit him for a double whammy I thought he might at least pay attention next year when we talk about vacation and dates.

We were on Valor or Legend for the superbowl (Patriots vs Carolina). We are big Patriots fans and they had loads of t.v's in the sports bar and they showed it on the big screen in the main theater. They had all kinds of food and it was packed to the max. Most exciting game we ever saw.

Unfortunately Carnival doesn't.

Purely as an FYI: RCCL has a big party on thier Voyager Class Ships in the skating rink. Its really pretty cool you are seated based on your team preference and they have a big buffet.

I've sailed 2x before during SuperBowl on Carnival, and both times they had a party with snacks and food. It was fun having fans of both teams in the same place. We will be boarding the Conquest on Feb. 4, so there's also the logistics of getting on board early enough, getting settled, then getting to the game and finding an appropriate excuse to get out of dinner.

We watched our Steelers - while out at sea - last year on the Triumph. Lots of "Super Bowl" activities all over the ship....buffets....drink specials...snacks.....games and activities, etc.

We watch the game in the big lounge - with several hundred of our newest "friends" . Actually it was alot of fun...picture was great and there were plenty of terrible towel all over the lounge.

I'm sure it depends on which ship how big a deal they make of it. But the Triumph was very accomodating. Infact that Sunday was supposed to be the first formal night - but they moved it to Monday.

I'm really glad we could see the game because DH threatened to meet me in Cozumel if I could not guarantee that he could see the game. Lucky for us all - it worked out fine. It could have been a very long week if DH had NOT been able to see that game!

Carnival and the Triumph did a great job of helping us enjoythe Super Bowl.
