LorettaD Posted October 26, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2006 DH, son (2) and myself will be on the 10 night sailing in a few weeks and were wondering if anyone can offer us some tips. I have been looking to see if anyone posted links to freestyles or menus anywhere but have been unsucessful in locating them. We have been on the dawn and are wondering if there are any major differences? Also are there any deals for the specialty restaurants? Any info or suggestions are appreciated especially if anyone has been in a BA catergory with a 2 year old or toddler. Thanks Loretta
LFM Posted October 26, 2006 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2006 Last Feb. we cruised on a 10 day Spirit out of NYC. A few nights they did offer 2 for 1 restaurant deals on an early bird reservation. After you board the ship, just ask at the res. desk and make plans then.

sneakerstud Posted October 29, 2006 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2006 You will love the Spirit!!! There are no menus available, since they will change in November! The Spirit will be the 1st ship, who changes all menus in all restaurants!

I guess it can happen on any ship and line. Bill Saw that - believe half of what you read on the Internet especially in newsgroups. On the morning of our ninth day I awoke with a rather large bedbug running down my arm! After screaming and cursing I captured and took the little b*st*rd to the hotel manager. I tried to explain that I feared the entire ship has a serious problem. He stated that he had a terrific extermination team however, acknowledged that docking in NYC presents a particular problem as NYC is known to have a dramatic bed bug problem
sneakerstud Posted October 30, 2006 #10 Share Posted October 30, 2006 Bed bugs...lol! Sand Bugs maybe, they can come on in your beach bag and if not told to the cabin attendands, nobody knows that they are there! That is mother nature and not something bad from the cruise line! We have booked the Spirit for its 15 day repo from New York to New Orleans. Just got back in yesterday on the Holiday and leaving out tomorrow on the Fantasy. It up to eah person to determine if it's fact or fiction or a combination of both. One thing I must add is that I was under the impression that bed bugs were very tiny. Never saw them before and hope I never do. Also fecal matter on the mattress?? Bill

S.S.Oceanlover Posted October 30, 2006 #15 Share Posted October 30, 2006 Thanks for the pic. Bigger than I thought. Again I hope I never have to encounter them. Maybe the person who wrote it was an NCL hater or wanted a free cruise?? Bill
Retired not Expired Posted October 30, 2006 #16 Share Posted October 30, 2006 DWhist, Dolphins, and several other CCer's were on that cruise. If the bed bugs are true, we should hear from them in the next day or two.
Dolphins Posted October 30, 2006 #17 Share Posted October 30, 2006 DWhist, Dolphins, and several other CCer's were on that cruise. If the bed bugs are true, we should hear from them in the next day or two. We arrived back in New York Sunday morning after a wild and windy Saturday night that delayed our arrival 2 hours. We loved the Spirit and thought it compared favorably with the Dawn. No sign or reports of bedbugs anywhere and our cabin's bedding was immaculate and well maintained by excellent stewards. They introduced new menus in the main restaurants which we felt were a considerable improvement fro the recent ones (Duck and Rack of Lamb are back). They offered half-price seating at 5:30 & 6:00PM every night in the speicalty restaurants. We went to Cagney's twice and that menu has not been changed yet from previous cruises. Will post a detailed review soon.
judyf Posted October 30, 2006 #18 Share Posted October 30, 2006 Thanks for the info. The bed bugs are bigger then I thought they would be. I haven't heard that one yet and we didn't have any bed bugs in July and hope to really NEVER see one.
212cruiser Posted October 30, 2006 #19 Share Posted October 30, 2006 I read the original post posted by the "bugged" passenger and it seemed awfully odd to me that she left out the cabin numbers. While I don't doubt that it could have happened, I do doubt that it did happen. Those bugs did not magically appear the moment that passenger arrived in the cabin; meaning, an infestation on the level described would have already existed and detected by prior passengers, as well, and treated (if it occured at all) immediately. For the condition to have existed unabated over a period of several cruises in the same stateroom is, well, very difficult for me to believe. helenp2 Posted October 31, 2006 #20 Share Posted October 31, 2006 While some might find this bedbug thing difficult to believe, the exact same senario was posted on the RCCL board about a month or two ago. If I remember correctly it was posted that once bedbugs are on board it is almost impossible to get rid of them. That woman on RCCL also took them to the hotel mgr and showed him the critters and he assured her that they would close down that cabin for the next cruise and do a complete fumigation. Well, she went back to that cabin on the last day and they had made up cabin for next guests. She also posted photos of her bites and scars. Supposedly they are carried on board from guests who have them in their homes.

For the condition to have existed unabated over a period of several cruises in the same stateroom is, well, very difficult for me to believe. In the spirit of fairness, I went to the original thread on the other board to read the original poster's newer posts in which she has now disclosed her stateroom numbers; to wit: 10166 (her original, supposedly infested stateroom) (not my stateroom:)), and 6506 (the stateroom they moved her into). Since I will be sailing on the Spirit in late November, on Deck 10, this thread was (and is) of particular interest to me. I was originally doubtful of the claim and remain so. Why didn't she post a picture of the infestations or her bites? A single picture is worth more than a thousand words.

I'm sailing on the Spirit in a little over a week so yeah I'm reading these posts. One reason could be as with me, many of us don't know how to post a picture. I don't believe the whole story. 212cruiser Posted November 1, 2006 #23 Share Posted November 1, 2006 You make a good point. I gather she is rather resourceful (after reading all of her posts on the other forum) and could learn how to post one, or at least explain that she has tried to post one. But she hasn't. I also noticed that her stateroom (10166) is adjacent to the children's play area which may have something to do with it, assuming it is true. From her post she describes a stateroom with an ancient, not recent, infestation, and bugs, blood and fecal matter everywhere including the drapes for everyone to see. How is it possible that this sort of grotesque situation went totally unnoticed and completely unabated by everyone for so long....until her arrival? More importantly, I'm looking forward to reading your review upon your return, especially with respect to the food (new menus, presentation, taste). Have a sensational time! Dolphins Posted November 1, 2006 #24 Share Posted November 1, 2006 We were also on Deck 10 (10076) and we had no problem at all. Our cabin and bedding were very clean and our attendants Ronald and Myra from the Philippines were excellent. During the cruise, I heard no complaints from other passengers about bedbugs. We loved the spirit and look forward to retuning to her in February.

I had no problem on the Spirit in July and I'm looking forward to being on her again in 8 days. I will report back with a full review as always.
