Califonria cruiser Posted October 31, 2006 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2006 I am going on Serenade next month and wanted to find out if you can walk off with your own luggage early or whether you HAVE to put luggage outside and wait to be called. What time would people typically be called? Also if you are one of the last to get off can you stay in your room later or when do you have to get out? Thanks, Jenn

Thanks, Jenn We did self disembarkation on Freedom a few weeks ago. We just picked up our own luggage and walk off the ship by 7:30 am. It was painless. nanfromatlanta Posted October 31, 2006 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2006 They usually want you out of your cabin by 8:30 so that they can prepare for the next group of passengers.
cb at sea Posted October 31, 2006 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2006 If you decide to linger, don't expect the fabulous service that you've had all week! They want you off the ship PRONTO!! Of course you can carry your own things--if you do decide to put your bags in the hall, then you need to wait until your "color" is called, so that your bags will be in the holding area when you arrive for them (or soon, thereafter!) wrp96 Posted October 31, 2006 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2006 Guys, there is no self disembark option on the Serenade out of San Juan. Disembarkation works differently in San Juan than in any other port I've sailed out of. How disembarkation works in San Juan: Everybody is given tags for their luggage no matter what, the color is usually determined by where your stateroom is. Times to get off the ship are determined by when your flight is. The first people they call to get off the ship are the people with early flights (before 11am). Then the next group to be called is flights between 11 and 1, then 1 and 3, and so on until they've called all the flight groups. After that they call for the people staying in San Juan. Once your group is called you get in line to get off the ship, once off the ship you stand in line to go through immigration. After immigration you are in a big warehouse where all the luggage is laid out by color underneath banners identifying the color (all the luggage is out there before anybody gets off the ship, not like other ports). After you've retrieved your luggage, you have to stand in line to go past customs. Then you will finally exit the terminal. Since we were staying an extra day in Old San Juan we were in one of the last groups off the ship. We got in line to get off the ship around 10:30 and were finally through customs and waiting for our transfers by around 11:30.
