mbisson Posted November 9, 2006 #51 Share Posted November 9, 2006 Shasta is cool .. I have a friend who has a cabin on the east slope and we've camped out there several times. I've not been to Hood, but hear that it's well worth the trip too. Have you seen the aerials of snoqualmie falls on the news? Pretty darn impressive!! I'm in Ellensburg and have DishNet instead of cable, so I don't get the Seattle locals (durn it) and haven't seen the falls on the news. Both my kids have been hired to work at Snoqualmie Summit this ski season. Back in my high school days I worked at Timberline Lodge on Hood. The views (even from the lodge) are fantastic!! -Monte
GATOR MOM Posted November 10, 2006 Author #52 Share Posted November 10, 2006 HI! I guess I better do some more reseach re Washington! So...Mt St Helens, Shasta...will check it out & thx so much...it's great to hear from the locals who know the area! There is so much beauty on the West Coast...one doesn't know where to start! I'm happy the rains aren't bothering you but do feel bad for those that are flooded, etc. Stay safe & dry.

Calif. Really beautiful. If you really want to see some scenery, you might allow a little extra time and take the coast highway along the Oregon Coast instead of I-5. Might want to checkout the redwood forest in Calif as well -Monte
ADPeterson Posted November 11, 2006 #54 Share Posted November 11, 2006 I mentioned this thread to the wife. She wants me to make reservations for the Moore for a couple weeks from now and buy tickets for Tim Conway/Harvey Korman. I guess to keep this on topic, I'll need to come back and let everyone know what we though of the Moore. -Monte Hey Monte: Look forward to your review. We stayed near SeaTac last year and next May would like to stay around Pike Market. I was thinking of trying to priceline it as it gets closer but if this hotel is nice then we might just for it. Thanks, Jeff
mbisson Posted November 11, 2006 #55 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Hey Monte: Look forward to your review. Thanks, Jeff We have a reservation for next Sat night. I've looked at several sites which give hotel reviews and see a few from other cruisers. It's sort of a mixed bag right now (review wise). I'll let everyone know what I think of it, but I warn you, if it's cheap and clean I'll probably be OK. I'm prone to be less critical if I'm in a place for 1 night than if I stayed there for several. The location is fantastic. -Monte
GATOR MOM Posted November 11, 2006 Author #56 Share Posted November 11, 2006 Hi Monte Thx for your advice...& I know the coast highway from San Fran up would be beautiful...just not sure I want to take it in on this trip. The coast line there is so great compared to the East coast...your cliffs are amazing. We were in San Farn this Sept...loved the area & scenery. Also went to Yosemite..amazing. But...this trip is all about getting to Alaska...how much scenery can I take in on one trip!!! Will think re the coast hwy...would be great. See on news how bad the rains are there...talked re closing Mt Rainier due to rain....and snow too!!!???? And here....sunny & warm:cool:
cruisemamma99 Posted November 16, 2006 #57 Share Posted November 16, 2006 Hummmm....That Warwick hotel looks very nice!!! And it seems they offer free transport to cruise terminals...most interesting!!! It looked nice online, were booked for 3 nights. I asked if they had any package deals, and free breakfast in dining room and parking so that helps a little. I wanted to see Seattle before our cruise, and go to Mt. St. Helens if not too far. cruisemamma99 Posted November 16, 2006 #58 Share Posted November 16, 2006 Nanietwo, no the Warwick is not near the train station ... Amtrak is near the football stadium and some govt. buildigs. There is a new hotel opening near the stadium, but on the far side from Amtrak. It's called the Silver Cloud. But I'm sure most of the big hotels downtown would shuttle you to your train, or a cab ride would be short and not too pricey. Star, you might look into the Edgewater on the waterfront. Or downtown there are a bunch of hotels .. the Sheraton, Alexis, The Westin ... tons of 'em. BTW, I'd go for the city view too, for just the reasons you said. I just noticed on my printout there's a monorail nearby, and Seattle has a China town. But no doesn't look like its by the train station.
