GoinCruisin Posted November 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2006 No problem carrying it on in a grocery bag if that is easier for you (I'd put the wine in something a little better)... but really, I'd led your pop just walk on like everyone else :p

Stephanie :) Hey, Stephanie, I KNEW you had to be from the north, as soon as I saw the word POP! Didn't know they said that in Canada, though!:D
Payd Posted November 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Hi When you carry on any wine or pop, do you have to put it in something or can you carry it on in just a grocery bag. Stephanie :) Hi Stephanie, Just curious, are planning on buying your wine once you arrive in the US, or are you planning on packing it in your checked luggage during your flight? If you are packing it bottled or boxed? Payd
Sashalanda Posted November 2, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I got those 8 packs of plastic bottle pop of coke and sprite to take with us. I put them in our smaller suitcase with wheels so it would be easier. We didn't fly though so not sure how that would work. Also the plastic just a bit less likely to leak vs cans from what I was told. Mine didn't leak anyway :). I would use a canvas grocery tote or something similar if you want to go that route simply because i have had sooo many of those grocery plastic bags tear on me. Esp if you are taking wine. Speaking of wine...I am not a drinker but after hearing all the good health benefits of a glass of red wine a day..am thinking it would also help me relax before bed..does anyone have a suggestion of a red wine that is sweeter? Lol I really don't much care for wine just because most I have tasted seemed bit bitter to me. A sweet one I think would be best..or is there even a "sweet" red wine? Ship Addict Posted November 2, 2006 #6 Share Posted November 2, 2006 On my last couple of cruises, we have packed our cokes and wine in a cooler, duct taped it shut, and checked it in as luggage. It has arrived every time without any problems. And I didn't have lug all that stuff on board myself!
martymonty Posted November 2, 2006 Author #7 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Hi We are planning on purchasing the wine and pop in the US as we are flying in the day before so we can start our holiday a bit earlier. I have a canvas beach bag so guess I will carry it on that way. I just wasn't sure if it was ok to have it all out in the open or not. Thanks for the replies Stephanie :)
funship freddy Posted November 2, 2006 #8 Share Posted November 2, 2006 On our most recent cruise (under the new TSA flight rules) we took a taxi from the airport to the port and had the driver stop at a supermarket and liquor store on the way. We purchased water and soda at the supermarket and liquor at the liquor store. Placed sticky cruise luggage tags on the water and soda and checked them with our luggage at the pier. Placed the liquor in our checked luggage and also in a shoulder carry on bag. NOT a problem. Everything arrived in our cabin. Saved a lot of money vs. the soda card and we had the benefit of soda and water in our cabin. Funshipp

Sashalanda Posted November 3, 2006 #10 Share Posted November 3, 2006 OOOO good idea about checking it as luggage. Where do you get the sticky luggage tags? Last cruise we could of used a few extra ones ourselves. I also really like the idea of a cooler cause there will be 4 of us this time. What size cooler was it? I have read others talk about coolers but never heard what size. Heard room steward would daily fill it with ice even.

skiorcruise Posted November 3, 2006 #12 Share Posted November 3, 2006 Someone asked about a "sweeter" red - I like Franzia's "Chillable Red". (Yes, I put on my flameproof suit prior to starting to type) It is a boxed wine, about $10 per box or less on sale. The box packs nicely in a suitcase, or the bladder fits into a cooler as well. I use a soft-sided cooler that holds 8-10 cans of soda (or pop, if you prefer) and ice. Buy the smaller box for a cruise - it can be difficult bringing an open container back through customs and onto an airplane. Easier to just leave it for crew/toss it out as you prefer. Ship Addict Posted November 3, 2006 #13 Share Posted November 3, 2006 What size cooler was it? I have read others talk about coolers but never heard what size. Heard room steward would daily fill it with ice even. Our cooler is not as big as the kind that come with the wheels on it, but bigger than a 12-pack size cooler. I have no idea how many quarts it holds or anything like that, but I imagine if we filled it up with cans completely, it would hold 3 or 4 12-packs. In 2001 on the Inspiration, I had a smaller 12-pack size hard-sided cooler. That worked great for my 3-year-old because she used it as a step stool for brushing her teeth. pandaruth27 Posted November 3, 2006 #15 Share Posted November 3, 2006 I was on the Glory last week and my fiance was able to carry on two 12 packs of diet pepsi in his carry on tote. I was able to carry on two bottles of Arizona Green tea. Next time going to get a cooler to hold more cans of soda. This is cheaper than the drink card. Mysticks1 Posted November 3, 2006 #16 Share Posted November 3, 2006 If you plan to pack your beverages in your checked luggage you can get those large Ziploc bags made for storing large items to place them in before putting them in your suitcase. The bags are large, much thicker than regular bags with good closure and they have a built in handle. For your return trip you can pack your souvenirs in them and carry them off.
