Steve & Carol Posted November 2, 2006 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Hi we are booked on the Sov. of the Seas tomorrow (Friday) Just looked at the local weather for th Bahama's..... 30 mph winds all week long. We were realy looking forward to Coco kay. Do you think it will be rough out there??? Do you think they will even attempt Cocokay ?? Not worth showing up at the peir or what?? Whezer Posted November 2, 2006 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2006 You'll be fine. Put that 30 mph wind to your back and arrive to all destinations early taking a month to return. Have a wonderful trip.
rsscaptain Posted November 2, 2006 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Winds are funny. I've been in 50 mile an hour winds, when the seas were not as bad as 30 mile an hour winds, where I thought we were in danger at least. (on a small vessel 80") LOL To many variables to guess? Most likely on cruise ship, 30 m winds won't be noticed to badly.
JTJ Posted November 2, 2006 #4 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I think it will be rougher getting across the gstream, waves are supposed to be 12 ft, due to the north wind, if tendering is on the south east of coco you might get in.
slotaddict Posted November 2, 2006 #5 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I was on a cruise headed for coco cay, winds were 35 mph, and we didn;t make it.
Steve & Carol Posted November 2, 2006 Author #6 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Thats terrable, What happened ? Did you spend an extra day in Nassau or did you just have an extra day bobing up and down in a rough sea? If they were to tell us tomorrow that we would NOT make Coco kay.. I would NOT board for sure..... Shoot!!!!!
shelbylook Posted November 2, 2006 #7 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I'm confused... then again, that's nothing new.... You'd give up your cruise and the money it cost you just because you may not be able to go to CocoCay? Did I miss something?
Steve & Carol Posted November 2, 2006 Author #8 Share Posted November 2, 2006 Sure, i would give up the Sea Sickness and High winds and the cruise!! I would go to a Resort or something in Florida, Tampa Weather is showing 82 with 12 mph winds and Sunny..... Or i could go bobbing up and down on the waves, With people getting Sea sick all around me, Not able to get off the ship and sun bath, No brainer too me!.... Leafpeeper Posted November 2, 2006 #9 Share Posted November 2, 2006 My DD's cruise reversed the ports so that instead of stopping at Coco Key, they stopped at Nassau first and made the stop at Coco Key the next day. We were unable to dock in Bermuda on our cruise on Crown Princess last month because of 30mph winds. The seas didn't look bad either. Even the captain requested to dock but was turned away by the Port Authority. Oh well, I guess I'll have to book another Bermuda cruise next year. Not to be judgemental or anything - but did you not realize that seasickness is a very real possibility on a cruise? There are medications (and natural one's too) to combat the effect of rough seas. Maybe you need to re-think the idea of cruising if you are willing to cancel a cruise based soley on the "possibility" of rough seas and missing one port.... Good Luck - I hope you choose to cruise :)
Steve & Carol Posted November 2, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted November 2, 2006 I live on the coast of New Hampshire, And owned a boat for many years. I have been caught out in many bad storms, Only been seasick a few times, mostly when not captaining the boat myself. But this is very different. I got caught on a cruise across the English channel once. People were throwing up all over the place including the dining room. The ship smelled real bad putting me compleatly off of my food. Everyone on the ship were down and unhappy. I remember at the time thinking ... I would give $1000 to get off of this thing. I guess if the smell of puke and not being able to get off for a day or so dont bother you, Then more power to ya.... I luv cruiesing, We have been with RCI 3 times now and had great times... But we never had bad weather or rough seas Maybe im just panicing a little ????? Tomorrow i will be on the Sov. :)

Motorman23 Posted November 3, 2006 #13 Share Posted November 3, 2006 Sov of the Seas is a small ship relative to most of the ships RC has. I believe it will be a rough ride, as others suggest bring Bonine or Dramamine and try to enjoy the trip. The larger ships such as Adventure and Explorer can handle bigger waves and winds better. Gator0178 Posted November 3, 2006 #14 Share Posted November 3, 2006 Steve and Carol, Have fun!! We were on the Sovereign a week ago tomorrow. I miss it! I think I can help you. We had 40 mph winds friday evening and 30-40 on Saturday. We were 2 1/2 hours late pulling into Nassau because of the winds, but made it nonetheless. It messed up my excursion, but we re-booked another. The seas weren't bad at all, and I didn't notice any more than usual people feeling woosy. We did notice the Majesty of the Seas pulling in late to Nassau. Apparently they couldn't pull into CocoCay so they went to Nassau early and stayed there. We had no problems tendering to Coco Cay the next day. Hope it works out for you. :D
